Jump Ship is a mission based co-op PvE for up to 4 players, where you are the crew of a spaceship. Transition seamlessly from crewing the ship to on-foot exploration and space walks. Engage in intense battles both on the ground and in space, and always keep your ship upgraded and intact.
I've been interested in trying this game out ever since they posted some early gameplay footage over a year ago. Looks kind of like a mix between Star Citizen (in and out of ship gameplay), Helldivers (4 player co-op/PvE missions), and Sea of Thieves.
Been playing this for a couple of days with friends - amazing game, demo is great. Like a mix of deep rock, sea of theives etc. Really worth checking out.
Can you compare it to voidcrew if you've played that? I want to like a game like this but voidcrew never hooked me and I'm curious how you feel a few days in.
Played this too on the weekend, aside from clearly unfinished stuff, I was thoroughly impressed.
They even thought of solo/two player cases, with a robot crewmember that helps out with more stuff the fewer human players are on-board.
A whoo boy, the sound design is delicious. The first person guns, the ship weapons and engines both when flying/using them, and hearing them when running around the ship. The jumpdrive. The MUSIC.
The team is clearly pouring their souls into the game and it shows. The vibes are excellent.
I even like how a solo duo changes the bot, in solo legally distinct bosco will do everything while in a duo he will man the guns and I think he performs a ship repair if you have a repair kit (that might be a solo thing idk if he does it in duos)
With a duo, if the second player is walking around the ship/not aboard, Buddy will man the guns. If the second player is manning the guns, it will reload the guns (even crafting the required supplies when doing so). It does not seem like it will put out fires, or do repairs.
In solo, he will use the sensors, he will man the guns, perform repairs, empty the materia collectors, accompany you on space walks, carry items back to the ship for you... Basically a ton of stuff.
What I was really impressed with is that Buddy still helps out in a duo. We would have been in trouble otherwise. Keeping the ship together during a big fight is a full-time task, so when a fire starts up, mines grab onto the hull, or repairs become necessary, the second player can hop off the guns and Buddy will take over while you put out fires, fight off boarders, etc. It's great.
And reloading the guns just means a duo can keep fighting as long as nothing is going wrong with the ship.
Essentially, you get to do the fun and chaotic parts, while Buddy picks up any slack when too many things need doing at the same time.
Has it been? I just got the email from Steam a few hours ago that it's Live now. They must be really late to notify everyone in that case.
Looking through the community it looks like they had originally planned to release the demo today, but ended up releasing it early on June 5th, and the game will only be available to play until the 16th.
Friends and I downloaded it, prompted by this post. There's a little bit of awkwardness and animation jank, but man, does the game get the core concept right.
Space is not flat, the ship feels like a near arcane contraption, rail guns should feel like they'll punch a hole in a small planet, and grappling hooks always feel good. These guys know what I'm looking for. The only thing I could genuinely ask for is a more true to physics flight model, but ultimately, I'll be too busy taking down fighters using a rocket launcher while gravity-booted to the nose of my ship to care too much.
