Man, I think the whimsy inside me died. I was in line at midnight to pick up my switch on launch night, but I wasn't even aware the switch 2 had come out.
Honestly it's somehow a worse launch than the switch. While the switch basically only had WiiU games at least most people hadn't played them (I mean BOTW will always be a switch game even if it was also released on the WiiU).
But all we really have for the foreseeable future is Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong. That's not a lot for the initial release year.
I think people are forgetting just how tiny the Switch launch lineup was.
1-2-Switch
Breath of the Wild
Snipperclips
That was about it. There was a reason eshop shovelware title Vroom in the Night Sky somehow got tons of coverage from major outlets and gaming YouTubers: there was almost literally nothing else to play for weeks.
For the short term I see the Switch 2 as just a better Switch. The games I couldn’t play due to frame rate are now playable (a very much throw money at the problem solution). But otherwise I agree, the Switch 2 library is pretty thin and it’s not worth the money currently. There’s only so much Mario Kart one can play and everything else is cross platform at a premium price.
Like Cyberpunk is cool but I already have it on Steam. And I certainly don’t fancy paying the switch 2 tax for the new Rune Factory and Fantasy Life. Fantasy Life literally has a “because we can” fee lol. It’s £2.50 to upgrade to the S2 edition ffs!
I'm personally pretty bummed by this news. This isn't $450(+tax) worth of console, IMO. They went backwards in some areas (no OLED screen??) and simply refused to make much-needed improvements in others (no Hall effect sticks??).
I was really hoping the Switch 2 would go the way of the 3DS, with a disappointing launch that caused Nintendo to bring the price back down to Earth.
I simply don't understand why people want to spend $500+ to play Mario Kart. At this point, I've just gotta accept the fact that it's not a consult console - or a brand - for me.
EDIT: "consult" to "console"; keeping it as strikethrough to preserve the joke/accurate point in the reply.
As much as I hate what the Switch 2 represents for the industry, this has been a great reminder to ignore the hundreds of YouTube videos that proclaimed, "Switch 2 is DOA," and that this was, "Nintendo's downfall!"
WiiU sold out at launch too. The launch sales aren’t nearly as important as the holiday sales and beyond for the health of the generation. Now that all the hardcore fans bought a switch 2. Are the families with switch lites gonna buy it? The casual gamers who only play Mario kart and already have switch 1 and mk8dx gonna buy it?
I mean, even at launch, the Wii U's numbers were sluggish, and the Wii U launched during the holidays. It's very early, and there could be a huge drop off, but this doesn't appear to be a Wii U situation.
Yeah, YouTube creators have really figured out that negativity will get more clicks than positivity, so everything is, "finished," or, "over," before it even comes out.
I was just thinking, if we had UBI, would we have so many people trying to scam people into clicking their video, so they could make a few bucks from views?
Remember when the Xbox One announced that always on shit and people thought it was going to kill the brand and make MS drop out of the console wars? That was far stupider than what Nintendo is doing now, and they still survived.
I've been mostly enjoying my switch 2 so far. MKs price is pretty bad. DEFINITELY not worth 80. Wish they had some better launch titles too. Looking forward to DK, Metroid, PKMN ZA, and Duskbloods.
I like my switch 2. I've been having fun playing Mario kart world. I really like the new pro controller. I really like that switch 2 can play all my switch games that I have tried so far. I was not bothered by the price one bit. The people with negative opinions about the system are the biggest crybabies that don't have the system and think only their opinion exists. The other comments on here of people trying to argue that no it's actually not good need to go play something else. Nintendo captures a huge part of the gaming market but not the most hardcore of gamers. This is nothing new.
