This is the reason people shouldn't be allowed to complain on behalf of a community they aren't part of. They often cause issues and bs out of nothing.
I'd say people should not be allowed to complain on behalf of a community, period.
We should normalize complaining about your own feelings being hurt, borders crossed or whatever.
One reason we have this problem is because we tell people to suck it up all the time. People dont need to suck it up, you need to grow some empathy, john.
Okay but some people might not be comfortable speaking out about it themselves. I don't think I, a white guy, "shouldn't be allowed to complain" if I hear a coworker use the N word, or using some terms that are extremely derogatory towards women. You could argue that's complaining on behalf of a community, even one I'm not part of.
I agree that we should normalize being more open with when borders are crossed but some people aren't comfortable with that (probably because people have been jerks about it before). But those people might still be hurt by that kind of language.
This just boils down to "don't disucuss social power dynamics" at some point, though, and that's how social power dynamics remain unchallenged, and only ever evolve towards reinforcing the social hegemony.
People need to be able to criticise others' words and actions when they perpetuate injustice, regardless of whether they are a part of the affected minority, and this criticism should not be viewed through the lens of taking offence.
One can criticise without being personally offended.
I think the problem is that Autism isn't clearly defined. There are people who have Autism struggles but they don't present in the traditional way. For instance, some of my family are very successful socially with lots of connections. The thing I realized later was that people can be a special interest. Lots of surface level connections with little in depth understanding. You can be Autistic and very high masking.
I also think there is a ton of overlap between ADHD, Autism and other related conditions. I'm honestly not even sure that ADHD and Autism are to separate things.
Yes, all Mexicans love Speedy Gonzales. It's a little known fact that 27 years ago the Mexican government exiled every person who didn't love Speedy Gonzalez. A lot of them settled in the Pittsburgh area and tried to rebuild their lives from scratch when back in nineteen ninety eight the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcers table.
It would be cool if the meaning of the things you say and do were decided by you but it's unfortunately decided by the current emotional state of the viewer AND how quickly the spin gets put on. If you say "a bullies parents shouldn't be executed" and the first 2 people to read your comment downvote you, vote momentum causes you to become wrong and a bullies parents actually should be executed. If someone says "she should be treated like the dog she is" and you point out dogs shouldn't be treated poorly, you get downvote because the misworded comment was directed at a shitty politician and you have to downvote anything that isn't lock step even if it's against animal abuse.
When we get the two buttons in front of us we all really should break our finger pushing the cleanse humanity button so hard.
