Adoption of wireless charging has been fairly slow, but it could pick up if it worked over longer distances. Now, engineers at Aalto University have developed a new system that can allow more efficient wireless power transmission over longer distances.

The only reason I can think of for people to be downvoting you is if they think you're talking about the car company, not Nikola Tesla. Probably should have used his full name.
Though the system he came up with was, well, flawed for lack of a better word.
It was pioneering, but viewed as mad science. It wasn't a workable system, but had other scientists ran with it, it could have become something a lot sooner than 2023.
My take on the down votes is this ventures into conspiracy theories about Tesla and wireless power delivery.

Hmm, but doesn't this require strong magnetic fields, that are potentially problematic? For example, wouldn't your spoon heat up from induction, if you place it close to your phone?
Even this would be good so that phones can charge through cases and stuff
