Chinese refiners are importing record amounts of Canadian crude after slashing purchases of U.S. oil by roughly 90 per cent amid escalating trade tensions.
I'd prefer we not sell any oil. Shit is killing the planet.
But I'd rather sell to China than the US at this point. Trump can fuck right off with his bullshit.
And guess who canada used to sell oil to? The US... Who typically has a thirst for Canada's nice heavy crude oils to help balance out the light, sweet crude made by most American oil fields.
Sourcing heavy crude from other suppliers who have to bring it in via tanker, because Chinese buyers can outbid the tarriffed American buyers... Tankers are significantly more expensive than local pipelines, is going to drive the cost of middle distillates up a bunch on top of the tarriffs.
I hope this is a lever Canada uses to get China to fuck off with their foreign interference, and stop trying to flood our auto market with their trojan horse spy EVs.
Can we actually get the 10 thousand dollar EVs please
They can spy on me all they want i have no fucking clue what i do that could possibly be beneficial to Chinese intelligence that they can't already readily find on the internet. We post everything. All the major American and Canadian corporations are already stealing and selling our data en mass. Their cars do too actually. Japanese cars as well. Any device with any connection to the internet does. Unless you're buying something explicitly opposed to that. And even then they still do half the time.
I'd like a cheap car that is efficient, long lasting, and well made please. Can we not also have a trade war with China. Let's not do that. It's not going to end well for America. I'd love to stop driving a gas car. I will almost certainly never be able to do so with American made vehicles. I'd love it if China flooded our auto market with EVs. Can we get a petition going lmao
Don't forget that China is an oppressive dictatorship that is actively antagonistic to Canadian sovereignty. Consider the risks that increased Chinese government surveillance would pose to Chinese Canadians who speak out against China, and the increased control their government would have as a result. Just because you don't believe you have anything to hide, doesn't mean that nobody has anything to hide.
Consider also, that on an atomic level, data isn't powerful, but it is powerful in aggregate. Consider the realtime advantage a hostile foreign power would have in a wartime scenario with cameras and microphones in even a fraction of the vehicles on the road.
Chinese EVs are a very bad idea for national security and they shouldn't be allowed in Canada under any circumstance. These concerns don't extend to Japan, South Korea, or Europe, they aren't actively antagonistic to Canadian sovereignty.
I hope so too, but my guess is that the most you can get is them trying harder to do it undetected. Gathering, spreading, controlling and using information seems to be their only modus operandi for getting others to do what they want.
America is no rookie when it comes to threatening & invading countries for their oil, it’s a shame Canada has little means of defence and the liberals are further taking that defence away.
Conservatives are not much better however, we can no longer rely on the US for national security.
Elections are coming up folks, pick wisely between the two evils.
Trudeau's Liberals increased defense funding from Harper's Conservative gov't and Carney's Liberals just bought a $6bil state-of-the-art early warning radar defense system from Australia. Seems the Libs take defense more seriously than the Cons.
Anybody who thinks the US will actually invade Canada is delusional. Trump might try but too many States would oppose him, too many military personnel would say no.
Even 3 months ago I'd agree with you, but if I see how much unthinkable stuff Trump did get done. Who knows he'll invade Mexico, kidnaps the gangs and then hires them to take control of Canada's oil fields & pipelines. Or hires Russians to throw Canadian politicians and oil field owners out of windows until Canada surrenders.
