Why I recommend against Brave.
If you are keen on personal privacy, you might have come across Brave Browser. Brave is a Chromium-based browser that promises to deliver privacy with built-in ad-blocking and content-blocking protection. It also offers several quality-of-life features and services, like a VPN and Tor access. I mean, it's even listed on the reputable PrivacyTools website. Why am I telling you to steer clear of this browser, then?
One day, out of the blue, I thought: "I should follow that guy who created Javascript". A few weeks go by and soon I'm wondering "why the hell are there so many antivax posts on my timeline?"
Was quite a surprise seeing that he was all in on the antivax stuff. I then unfollowed him and haven't used any of his products since.
I mean, he created JavaScript. It's hardly a surprise that he's a piece of shit.
What is a good alternative? I use Brave and am quite happy with it, but this is new for me and I'm kind of reluctant to use it any longer.
The de facto answer would have been "Firefox" until recently. It is still a good option, but there are signs it has begun enshittifying.
Still Firefox is an option if you Adjust Built-in Privacy Settings & tweak some settings or go with one of its forks with that done already for the time being.
Beyond that we are at the whims. Upside maybe Europe will help accelerate some projects.
Brave has had issues with shadiness for a while, also the CEO is a transphobic ass. Best to avoid that piece of crap like you would any other scam.
