Valid point, but it doesn't seem like they want to let go. They were probably thinking that they could force people to LW by keeping the Blahaj community locked, but now that everyone moved here, it's indeed a bit ridiculous.
I'm so glad this all worked out so smoothly. Whatever happens next, it makes me so happy to see that this community handled a difficult situation so well in so little time. That's definitely a good sign :3
That's true, but what really impresses me is that the "new" 196 gained so much traction so quickly. Creating a new community is one thing, but so many people were immediately on board because they didn't like what the mods did to the "old" 196. Nobody was willing to take the mods' shit and that's very cool.
The mods of !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone wanted to move the community over to lemmy.world without asking the users. They literally locked down the community and made a post saying "We moved." That didn't land well, !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone was created and quickly grew to a respectable size because lots of people wanted to stay on blahaj. The mods of the original 196 backed down and reopened the old community, but I don't know what's gonna happen next. Trust in the mods has been broken by that, though.
Maybe in a few weeks when the community is stable the mods can suggest moving to something like !198@lemmy.blahaj.zone and see if the people want to do so.
I'll just vent here quickly because I don't want to create another post on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com, but still would like talk about it for a bit.
yeh I saw that, I dont think ur post was harassment but I do kinda get theyd feel that way with all the hate theyre getting XP I do feel like it was a bit too much posting that on their community, would have made more sense on this community but anyway I think we should stop talking about that now that it seems the drama has mostly ended :3
I absolutely knew this was coming. I held onto this comment exchange specifically because I knew they would drop the hammer-
How this is anything other than a threat, when said by someone with authority, I'll never know. As far as whether or not it's harassment, I can't see the one you did link, but if you called them a name, then that's definitely not okay. However, I will add that as a mod, if you get asked a question in public and don't reply to it, you can absolutely expect the commenter to keep asking it. That isn't harassment so much as it's expected human behavior.
Part of being a mod is agreeing to deal with even the most insistent, possibly annoying people. It's not against the rules to be insistent or annoying, so you really need either the patience of a school teacher, or the rigid clenched fist of an authoritarian. My go-to move was, anytime someone annoyed me in such a way that I felt I couldn't answer without overstepping, I'd flag a different moderator and ask them to respond. You don't have to actually engage if you're worried someone will raise your blood pressure. That's why you need a team. And communciation!
For the record, I kind of agree with the outcome here. The mods are getting enough pushback and you escalating it to name calling did not advance the wellbeing or outcome for either side.
