What would be an appropriate name for a community to share short-form videos?
What would be an appropriate name for a community to share short-form videos?
I wanted to pick a name that's generic and not specific to any particular platform. For example, !microblogmemes@lemmy.world instead of !whitepeopletwitter@sh.itjust.works
I don't see a community for that yet, aside from !loops@midwest.social, which is specific to Loops.
Some sources of the content could be:
- Fediverse Loops
- Tiktok
- Instagram Reels
- YouTube Shorts
The sidebar could include guides on how to link to the content in a more accessible way (ex. alternate front-ends or re-posting).
You're viewing a single thread.
Subsidiary question, how do you share videos, is it possible on Lemmy now?
I can't share images bigger than 2MB 😰

5 0 ReplyYeah I know, but it also seems to be a pictrs limitation, I have fiddled around a bit without success on my instance.

Post them to another host (realisticly, probably YouTube) and then post the link to that.
3 0 ReplyWell that won't show up as a video on Lemmy or will it?
3 0 ReplyDepends of the interface. Mp4 show up correctly on the Web UI
4 0 ReplyOn desktop, if you link to an mp4 file hosted somewhere, it embeds the video in the post, just as a picture would be embedded.
Example: https://lemmy.world/post/23008472
How does this post appear to you?
3 0 ReplyThere is just a link.
Edit: I'm using Connect.

If you post the file to somewhere you can directly link to it (I.E. wvvw.notawebsite.com/file.mp4) it will show up as one. That said, I don't know of any hosts who allow sharing of Video content this way. Some clients also embed YouTube properly, and I wouldn't be suprised if PeerTube worked too, but I have yet to see anyone directly try and post PeerTube content.
