Obvious answer is that people are sharing otherwise you'd have nothing to download :P
For me I usually permaseed, or at least seed back 5-10x if not planning to keep a download. Also have created new uploads at torrent sites and occasionally fill requests.
I basically seed forever, and I also upload and fill requests sometimes. I have dozens of terabytes seeding. I see it as my contribution to the preservation of the art, and if I’m going to take up the storage space with it I might as well be seeding it too.
I seed as much as I can but I still have a 0.75 ratio sadly. I tend to dl random old shit nobody wants so i'm just helping the other weirdos like me. I plan on switchi g to linux and I'd like to set up my computer to be as secure as possible and then maybe upload stuff also.
And like in the old times I bring my hdd with me and share with friends when we meet in person !
I don't seed.
I live in a country with tight laws and actual cases of people getting sued over torrenting and seeding. With different financial outcomes between those two.
We are on the poor side and while I have some technical knowledge I'm not confident enough I can protect myself from financial trouble. So I unfortunately torrent through a VPN and have my client set to seed 0%.
It's definitely not. Copyright trolls send letters to all peers in a torrent swarm regardless of uploading/downloading. And in any case the bittorrent protocol uploads and downloads simultaneously - Even if the commenter is attempting to seed 0% they are still participating in the torrent swarm and uploading pieces of data to others in the swarm during their own download.
I have to assume that commenter's VPN is working as intended or maybe they have been lucky.
For my automated content I go by a factor of 4. Things that I download manually usually also gets ratio 4 but things that are hard to come by or that I really like get unlimited ratio.
I love seeing the seed ratio go up. For new releases it’s common to see 100:1 before I shut em off. My system is pretty disorganised and not automated which is why I manually clean up torrents. I’d love to run some long running seeds in future but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Minimum 2:1 for something popular, try to do 3 or 4 to 1 for less popular ones, especially ones with a few seeds and a lot of peers. I don't uploaf or rip, because I don't know how, and have no reason to.
I set my thing up to seed but I think my upload speed is too slow. I occasionally seed slowly and its set to constantly do it but my ratio is not great... If anyone has tips to improve this please let me know!
I torrent using my phone 99% of the time, so I try to get to a 2:1 if possible, but large files like tv shows that have upwars of 200 gb take up too much space, and I can't have multiple seasons downloaded at the same time, so I usually get them up to 1:1 and then download the next episodes
I don't use torrents all that much to be quite honest - I just download and forget about it with my qbittorrent running in the background pretty much 16 hours a day while I'm awake.
Think the highest seed ratio I accumulated doing this was 500 ratio on a 50gb file.
