The firing of the employee went down earlier today.

They decided to turn it into a resignation to save face.

Had to step in to prevent it turning into an argument with their manager, but handled it well.

The employee thanked me for my professionalism when I walked them to their car, and they hugged me goodbye.

So glad I held a debriefing with their team afterward. It honestly helps me as much as it helps them.

Still feeling a bit from it. So my self care starts now with a curried cauliflower pie from Country Cob

Speaking of Country Cob, their vanilla slices are amazing! I've tried a few of their pies and wasn't very impressed though, especially for the price.

The other city subs are back, but Melbourne still in lockdown (and there wasn’t even a press conference.) It is a good space here, but I don’t know I am nostalgic I guess.

I've crept back to Reddit a couple of times over the last few days but honestly... there's some weird communities that people are clinging on to that are now appearing on r/all that I'm just like "if this is what Reddit is to become, maybe it's a good thing that I just walk away."
I'm happy enough in here, provided we retain a good percentage of the old DT gang. We might need to recruit or hope that we gain enough traction to increase our numbers of great people eventually, but for now, this will have to do :)
- Sadly, the r/NRL meatheads aren't interested and don't care if reddit fucks over their users so they aren't interested in any further action or moving platforms. That's probably my most frequented sub so I'm somewhat tied to it if I want to talk NRL in a non-discord setting.
- Really? I popped back there this morning and I don’t think that, besides Melbourne, any one of the subreddits that I frequent have gone permanently dark.
  I was only ever active in the Melbourne subreddit but frequently lurked in many others, and it’s business as usual in all of them. I never went on r/all though so maybe that’s why I never noticed a dofference

Anyone can also check r/ModCoord for updates on the great schism. The moderators will eventually be replaced if they don’t capitulate.

In a story that’s 100% my own fault for not learning, I’m battling Amazon. So that vacuum I complained about the other week? The one I brought for 495ish then dropped to 400ish 2 days later? Amazon wouldn’t price match. They said to just return the order and reorder it again. I didn’t. I brought from JB for 400 and sent the more expensive one back to Amazon who proceeded to charge me a “change of mind return fee” of 7 bucks after previously claiming I wouldn’t be charged. Now it’s just 7 bucks, I’ve wasted far more on things before, but because of how shit they’ve been I decided to fight it.

They are claiming they can’t offer me the 7 dollar refund as anything other than credit, but I keep telling them that I’m not gonna buy anything from them anyway so refund me the money as I’m legally I’m entitled too and for them to either get their shit sorted or I’m gonna charge back the full amount on the credit card.

Far out people don’t buy from Amazon cause if someone goes wrong it’s a fucking nightmare!

Geez. That sounds like an ordeal and a half. I know all too well about fighting over something that might seem trivial, but it comes down to the principal of the matter.
Here's hoping on the other side Amazon just refund you the money sooner rather than later. Surely there's someone there that looks at how much time is going into the admin of trying to resolve the complaint and just go "fuck it, it's $7". Then again, their Overlord and all round Evil Doer of a boss would be stingy enough that $7 would be something he'd fight tooth and nail over.
- Deffo. They keep saying their system doesn’t support refunds this way. I say I don’t think under Australian consumer law they have a choice. Guess we will see what the ACCC say.
They ripped me out of a $20 gift card last year. I got gifted one and I ordered a few bits and bobs, even though it was all covered by the gift card, they still demanded I add a bank card. So I did. 100% of it came out of the gift card funds, and 0% out of my card. Then 5 minutes after they accused me of providing a stolen bank card and demanded I verify my card by sending in a statement + proof of balance. So I did. I tried 4 times, and then they removed my button to be able to upload documents. Couldn't even call a real human, because guess what, when your Amazon account is on hold YOU CANT EVEN ACCESS THE SUPPORT PAGE. It was only 20 bucks, but it just showed me that they are willing to fuck me over at the drop of a hat. At that point I decided that I will not shop there again, at all.
The irony is that that $20 they screwed me out of is nothing compared to the couple of hundred I since would've spent there

Within the 30 days you can do the return yourself without talking to a person, I change the reasoning if the return fee appears. The returns system can be automated for the first month.
Last year I had to respond to an email about why I had returned so many items, I just explained that I wouldn't have bought them in the first place if Amazon hadn't provided a peace of mind.

Sunday is mead maintenance, moving latest brew to secondary storage, i will have two 5L batches from this, the base is strawberry and rasberry. One 5L batch will be getting more strawberry juice in secondary and some wine tannins and the other will be getting 0.5kg of dried sour cherries in there for a bit :)

Going to meet my friend’s new baby on Saturday and hot pot dinner with my office mates on Sunday.

Volunteering has its ups and downs but I got such amazing feedback yesterday from my manager and then still couldn't work cos my brain was too foggy. So I'll try and pull a big effort today and get as much done as I can so it's not all up to someone who really doesn't have the time.

Anyone else done AA? I've found a zoom group which is always online and at the very least just listening is helping, and I get a sense of calm when for the last three months I've been a complete anxious mess most days. I was worried they'd try and talk about de-transition but they've actually been super trans-positive and sensitive. I need sensitivity in my life as I've upped my oestrogen intake by 50% this week and it's feeling pretty amazing but yeah, deeper. Only a few more days alcohol withdrawl to go and I'll be steady enough to get back on my skateboard, though I'm going to try again today anyway.

Resubmission of my last TAFE assignment is complete. Nothing major, but it involves about 14 billion different files to submit the assignment, so it is quite possible I missed something about which ones I needed to redo.

I have found that setting my default sorting to Subscribed and NewComments has resulted in a better default feed. You do need to have enough community subscriptions for this to be beneficial.

The default sorting works for both the Jerboa app and the desktop website. We should have a post thread suggesting active fediverse communities for people to subscribe to, as they aren't that easy to find yet.

The man's car is fixed so that means I get my car back. He refered to it as the "family car". I correct him with "eeeerttt no". I had to go through the rules with him. Wash your hands before getting in my car. Fill it up. Strictly no eating in my car. If you must have a coffee DO NOT SPILL ANY because it will cost you your life. No hooning and the most important, if you bend it, you mend it. Apart from that I am pretty easy going.

Had the most productive day in over two weeks today and feel tons better about myself. Boring friday night talking to other alcoholics about our struggles at finding our higher powers and how powerless we are to control our substance use. A lot cheaper than going out and better company than the miserable mostly jerks I was wasting my life with on party chat rooms.

Pretty disappointed the two queer AA groups I reached out to haven't responded. I'm about done with the "queer" scene honestly. Was great to go and protest the cookers yesterday and I won't stop fighting for my own community but it feels like the greater queer community shut me out all the time and always have. Someone reckoned st kilda wasn't queer enough. Fucks sake, just let people live. Who cares? Why live in a bubble and ghetto anyway? Oooft paid $6 for fresh strawberries and they were half rotten. Other half was still delicious tho 🍓

The good thing about strawberries at that stage is they are generally properly ripe, and the edible bits are usually very tasty. Not good to have paid full price for it though, and disapointing that you have less strawberries than you wanted.

Had the craziest time just now trying to buy a pair of uggs (or indeed anything close).
First outlet had the delivery driver doing wild things with the truck so you couldn't get near the place.
Second outlet's prices were eyewatering.
Decided to give Rivers a go and roadworks around the area had blocked off the entrance.
DFO was my last shot and I got a nice pair for about the price I was wanting, as well as a non-black top at the Big Girls' Blouse outlet.
Did a quick top up shop on the way home and am now flooped on the couch.

Rivers make terrible shoes in my experience.

I assembled a new office chair for Mrs_Owl yesterday. Hope this one works out as others haven't and she's spent the best part of three years WFH sitting on a dining chair.
- I've had my chair for 2 years, it's fantastic. Big #gamer chair, but I love it. Luckily I got free chair parts because the company doesn't sell chair parts in Australia. And it got sent out like Monday or Tuesday, so very happy with the company.

Watching the new Deadloch ep while I eat breakfast, and I have to say this ep is definitely slower than the rest. It's definitely a dotting the I's and crossing the T's episode in preparation for the final few eps. Sadly this ep is also poking holes in my outlandish theory as to who the killer is.

Final note, Kate Box is fkn killing it as the lead, while Madeliene Sami seriously wobbles on the line between funny and ok this is old now, Kate Box is absolutely solid from start to end. Would enjoy seeing some awards thrown at her when the time comes.

lead actor is fantastic, even when kinda buttoned down the whole time. watching her cut a bit loose doing an impression of the partner was fun. overall as with most aus products i'm proud and impressed but also like 'this could have been world class with another few rounds of quality control'

Yeah the Eddie character is a bit cringe, hard to say whether that's due to the script, or whether it's bad over-acting by Madeline. I think we're 3 or 4 episodes in so we'll probably stick with it.
- I think maybe it's a mixture. This may just be me but when you throw Dulcie, Abbey, Sven, and Eddie into a scene together you start to wonder why the writers decided to bring in a foil for Dulcie at all when Abbey and Sven are doing a much better job of it and in much more audience appealing way.
I can't stand that show. The unrealistic incompetence is too cringe for me.
I was excited for it, but had gotten around to looking at reviews today and I think I'll wait for the season to complete and watch in one go.

As far as I can tell there are no android browsers that will block animated pictures from playing. Why do they do this to me? There are a few extensions for desktop so I might be able to block them there, but as I spend more time on mobile that is very dissapointing.

I've had a throat itch for a few weeks. I reckon it's mild hayfever from a warm winter. I eat plenty of fruit and veggies which is what usually helps me get over a cold.

Similar to me. I could not get warm yesterday until late in the afternoon and I developed a pain in my throat when swallowing which is still there today. Came with a headache and fatigue/brain fog but not much in the way of sniffles.

God my cat would not stop meowing and waking me up throughout the night. Had to throw him out of my room at 5am because it was so frustrating.

Whoo! First week over! One of the bonuses to my job is I can at least listen to my own stuff, so since I wasn't doing a lot of writing today I got through a huge chunk of podcasts that are in my queue. Now it's time for the weekend.

In a meeting about the main technology from my portfolio which I'm responsible for and I just.. can't. I think I need a nice long holiday. I've wanted to do a driving tour of some of the US national parks and maybe pop up into Canada for a while, maybe I should start planning.

And back to square one with my chair. The piston where the chair legs sit looks bloated, so it's really difficult to lift the chair legs, and I can't even get the old piston off of the old seat carriage holder thing... ugh. I just want to play video games in comfort. And the uber delivery driver is late with my order, at least it's the end of the day I suppose.
