Unarmed protest would not have stopped the confederacy

I've heard that there are two rules to live by:

1. Don't give 2 weeks notice to a company that'd fire you without a second thought unless you actually liked working there.
2. Don't bother trying to reason with someone John Brown would have shot.

I highly suggest the good lord bird mini series where John Brown is played by Ethan Hawke to anyone interested.
