This makes me miss my rats. Looks you like also have the critter Nation Cage.

Kids (human) take our time now, but maybe when there's no toddler we get back into the game!
- I think rats make an excellent first pet. Guinea pigs and hamsters are boring. Def gotta wait til your kids know not to throw them tho haha.

  I wouldn't recommend as a first pet. Rats are super smart and need stimulation. I think young kids would do better with a pet that's not dependent on them, like something that can roam free.
  
  Source: had a pet rat as a kid and did not give it a great life, which is a shame.
