This is nowhere near as bonkers as Jedi training with live lightsabers. And I don't even mean the younglings. Even Obi Wan and Anikin sparing with live blades is insanely reckless.
It's no wonder the prosthetic tech is so good.
I don't know at what point in the mythos it was added, but i recall being told by someone more into the fandom that the sabers could be set to different power levels, so when sparring, rather than kill and cut they would just shock the shit out of you or burn.
Nice. I'm sure it was decided after the fact, But it's a cool fix to the problem , so rule of cool wins.
