Ok, so since voting is obviously the only way to enact any sort of political power for non-politicians: feel free to do nothing but feel morally superior until the next election comes around when there is no hope that things improve because people are stupid and there's no use in convincing anyone who's "wrong" and/or "evil". /s
Feel free to keep having the same exact conversations since 1950 every insular naive wannabe college leftist has had with their first-ever interaction with conservative voters in the US.
I'm sure you'll get real excited afterwards, and talk with all your buddies about how there's a DEEP wellspring of leftism just waiting to be tapped, and the mass shift in class consciousness is just around the corner. Any day now, bro. Just a few more pamphlets, a few more talks, and they'll totally be ready for socialism. We'll be looking at a whole new country.
You live with these people, in their communities, as part of their communities, and you understand on a deeper level why the surface-level "nod-and-agree" in response to politely phrased leftism doesn't mean shit.
Bruh, I'm not the one dismissing democratic processes for not being 'proper progressive politics' sexy enough for a hero of The Revolution to support.
I'm not above participating in a shitty system to stop literal genocide, but it seems that some would prefer to keep their hands clean of shit, and covered, instead, with the blood of folk like me.
I'll write you a nice letter from RFK's concentration camps.
Yes, yes you are by dismissing the very act of a democratic formation of opinion by debating with one another.
"A democratic system means that everyone's mind can be changed if you just clap your hands and believe hard enough"
And here I thought that by heading to the progressive left I was getting away from fundamentalist Christianity. Silly me. Seems that nonsensical axioms based on evangelistic motivated thinking are as present as ever, only now with everything 'Godly' termed as 'democratic' instead.
Too bad I enjoy your memes. Otherwise I would just block you for your contrarian bullshit takes that leave no stone unturned to misrepresent the comment above.
But I don't have to engage with your comments, so I won't anymore. Have fun in your world where everyone's an idiot but you.
Otherwise I would just block you for your contrarian bullshit takes that leave no stone unturned to misrepresent the comment above.
Me, directly quoted, the relevant bit of which you've been contesting and which started our argument:
Trying to reason with right-wing voters in this country is a lost fucking cause.
You, directly quoted:
you are by dismissing the very act of a democratic formation of opinion by debating with one another.
If my argument is that some people can't be reasoned with and that it's a lost cause to try, and your response is that that argument is anti-democratic, what does that leave except
A. That you are implying that everyone's mind can be changed, and that you can't dismiss deeply entrenched demographics as targets for persuasion without being anti-democratic
OR
B. That democracy means you have to try to change everyone's mind, even if you know full well that the argument is pointless, will go nowhere, and will not succeed
Either argument smacks of Christian fundamentalism, and I grew up in that religious tradition, so I can recog-fucking-nize it. It's a soul-based approach to politics, not a results-based approach.
