Demonstrators gathered in cities across the U.S. on Wednesday to protest the Trump administration’s early actions, decrying everything from the president’s immigration crackdown to his rollback of transgender rights and a proposal to forcibly transfer Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

The protests were a result of a movement that has organized online under the hashtags #buildtheresistance and #50501, which stands for 50 protests, 50 states, one day. Websites and accounts across social media issued calls for action, with messages such as “reject fascism” and “defend our democracy.”
Control what you can control and pick your battles. Aimless protests or food for my family? Unengaging cliche quip or simple downvote and move on? Self-restraint is hard but comes with maturity. You'll get there eventually comrade
I'm not doing nothing in the mean time. I'm arming myself better and scheduling range time, stocking up on non perishables (rip my savings account), reaching out and donating more to some of my state wide civil rights organizations, and I'm forcing all my friends and family to switch over to encrypted call/messaging (Signal) that's harder to track and read contents of. I'll do more as time allows, but it's hard to support any cause if I end up die of hypothermia under a highway bridge with no resources at my disposal.
Employment lawyers exist for a reason. Better use their services now before they're all gone because the Trump Admin got rid of OSHA and the rest of our rights. Use em or lose em.
This isn't about you.
The country with one of the most powerful armed forces in the world is about to turn fascist.
If protestors can avert the impending catastrophe this might save us from WW3
I am not from the USA (or any other part of the American continent for that matter). In a thread about protests against fascism in the US, taking place in the US, I think it's fair to assume the "you" refers to US citizens. If there was a thread about Brazilian politics I would assume a similar post refers to Brazilians and that's fine IMO. US exceptionalism is real and no doubt many US Lemmy users also fall into that trap, but this particular post just doesn't seem problematic to me.
Everyone needs to contribute how they can. Wave a sign, post and repost, volunteer to help those most affected by Trump's policies, get out the vote (especially in the primaries), run for office, make a home garden and help neighbors with theirs, donate old stuff (preferably directly to those that might need it), or just try to have those hard talks with your right-wing family and neighbors. I know a lot of people are quick to just cut people out of their lives, and if it's just ruining you emotionally then do what you gotta do, but half of us deciding the other half is evil and unredeemable then we're never going to get out of this funk.
