It's a comedy show. Talking about is success is talking about it's comedic performance.
Real question: Could you show me a funny scene from friends? The first one that comes to mind?
Although you're just being intentionally dense at this point I'll give you another quantifiable fact, the word 'comedy' appears 160 times on this page:

I'm not making any judgement in regard to your opinion, or even disagreeing, I thought friends was lame as fuck. I'm merely pointing out that friends is overwhelmingly considered a comedic success, and that our opinion is by definition the unpopular one.
Definitely successful, but it's popular for people to say that they think it's not funny, which is what I was getting at.

It was shit then, and it's only gotten shittier since (see: cash grab antics, laugh track BS, etc. above), but you go on thinking that a "popular" opinion is popular because it is, and not because it's the rational, self-respecting opinion that many simply default to and never apply further attention to the subject again. 🤷🏽♂️

Also the money is not proof of funny, you could make that off with the drama and romance series too.
