A Lemmy instance with no defederation

I just recently set up unilem.org aimed at federating with everyone. Yes this will include meta. Some will like it and others will not but thats the beauty of the fediverse. You can choose your home or even make your own.

The server is still in very early stages but im looking for everyones input on potential issues I could face so I can start getting ahead of the curve of some of them. Im obviously aware of issues such as bot server and illegal content being fetched etc.

Any other tips on hosting or just is general is will be much appreciated. Mabye you know some tools that could help? Im aware this is very ambitious but i think its possible if done right.

Much thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to Universal Lemmings!

Universal Lemmings was setup as I was unhappy with the defederation policy's of other instances that I was on. Other than servers obviously set up for bots/spam we aim to not defederate. We will even federate with bot instances if the community wishes. Though I find that incredibly unlikely.

This instance is still very new so you might need to search out your favorite communities again. Im still working on finishing up backend optimizations but once completed I will begin making more formal announcememts and guides on how to get around.

If you have any questions or concern's feel free to comment, post in the support community or even DM me.

The migration of large communities from Reddit to Lemmy is like a world-renowned band performing an acoustic set in a library for 50 people.
  • This could be a concern but i think it will even out in the end. Many people will naturally gravitate to am instance that suites them. I created unilem.org as an instance aimed at not defederating. Some will like that and join others will not and find a different place that suits them. Its the beauty of the fediverse. You can choose your home or even host your own.

  • Lemmy.world active users is tapering off while other servers are gaining serious traction.
  • I think users are jumping over to instances that more fit their personal values. Its why I left lemmy.world and created unilem.org. An instance for no defederation. It might not be for everyone. But i prefer to be able to access everything in one place and do thr moderation/blocking on the user level.

  • Growing my instance
  • Well i dont have any non profit backing but as far as redundancy is concerned ive got that covered. But yeah i see your point and how it would affect user choice and confidence.

  • Growing my instance

Im wondering what ways people advertise/grow their lemmy instances. I recently just created mine and would like to put it out there as one of the options. How did you discover your instance and what drew you to it?
