  • If dmenu was made by a nazi I wouldn't give a shit because its just dmenu but hyprland is so clearly made by a pack of /g/ zoomers who want their desktops to look like 1337 haXors without any access to the low level systems. Its all discord script kiddie hype-beasts.

Its a tiling window manager made by people who never used a tiling window manager on X11. I know I'm sounding like an elitist boomer but this shit really violates some core Unix principals of making small composable utilities that empower the user. RiverWM or Sway keep to this philosophy.

  • where you vote for a party and then find out it is run by some rich dude.

That's how neither of the last three work. To keep it short the last three are:

    • settler colonial state where genocide has popular support.
    • mafia-state where reality doesn't matter
    • Indirect democracy dominated by a party particing Democratic-Centralism.

What your described is something like France and Bernard Arnault. There's many like this but that's your normal freedom loving democracy™.

edit: who is the secret rich dude running Russia and China if its not Putin and Xi? 🤣

  • Comparing one authoritarian country to another and having an answer other than “both are bad”

Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Israel are all "authoritarian" but wildly different societies. Merely labeling them as "authoritarian" and leaving it at that is short circuiting your reasoning skills.

  • As already said, Mint is the only sane choice for the common user. The only thing I'd add is to select the MintDE edition which is built off Debian instead of Ubuntu.

You won't notice any real difference between either variant but you should encounter fewer issues on the Debian version.

  • Its not about lack of nuance but more about deliberately being a useful idiot because not everyone has the patience of someone like cowbee. Let me translate your example:

    • Slavery is bad.
    • Slavers say Dessalines is bad.
    • Therefore Dessalines is good.

Now its 2025. Dessalines is long dead and we can safely say the free people of Haiti deserved a better leader. But back in the 1800s I'd back Dessalines to the hilt because I'm carrying absolutely zero water for slavers.

  • China for all its faults has a functional government, growing economy and rule of law is strictly enforced. Would we be so lucky to become like China. The US is spiraling towards becoming like post soviet Russia.

  • Join some like minded organization that meets in person locally to start. What you should do is entirely based on where and who you are.

If you find yourself and your group still lost then join a reading group on some sort of theory on how to enact social change.

  • Game engines seem to be explicitly what Odin was built do. I'm just reading their website for the first time but they make that clear.

My impression of Odin is that its explicitly made to enable you to write unsafe code. But that's good if you want to get some crazy optimizations going through.

  • Yarn > v1.22 is a very different beast than npm. After that version they introduced a "package-manager" field to package.json and yarn will install the specific version of yarn required by that package onto your root system and use that version.

There's probably some way to do that without messing with your root system but after I encountered that I went back to npm. Let something like nix handle the version of my build tool. Or at least install to my home directory like rustup or sbt.

  • Wrong, the whole purpose of tracking your usage is to identify what kind of consumer you are so they can sell your views to advertisers. Recommendations are based on what category of consumer you've been identified as. Maintaining your viewership is secondary to the process of selling your views.
