Luckily my boss does encourage us to take care of our health including taking breaks from screen time (those 10 minutes every two hours as proposed by doctors), which are not added to our break time. He also knows I don't take such breaks often enough which actually causes my stress level to be too high. Smokers do have some advantages regarding this I guess.

Usually my mom's tripawed cat Franka keeps to herself and hides under the blanket on my mom's bed. When she wants some attention she switches to the couch.
Zwei Katzen und ein Platz an der Sonne Franka, die dreibeinige Katze meiner Mutter, lebt normalerweise sehr zurückgezogen indem sie sich unter der Bettdecke versteckt. Wenn sie Aufmerksamkeit braucht wechselt sie auf die Couch.

However when Miez saw a butterfly (zoom in) and rushed to the terrace door right next to Franka that was a little too close for her comfort so she jumped up and hissed at Miez.
Als Miez jedoch einen Schmetterling (reinzoomen!) sah und an nahe Franka vorbei zur Terassentür rannte wurde es Franka zu eng. Sie sprang auf und fauchte Miez an.

Even though I brush Miez regularly her thick fur gets warm really quick so she abandons the sun for her favourite box.
Obwohl ich Miez regelmäßig bürste wird ihr dickes Fell schnell zu warm und sie zieht sich aus der Sonne zurück in ihren Lieblingskarton.

The vet said 30 seconds to a minute. I just estimate the minute but nothing about still attached inhaler. Why do you need to keep the inhaler on? The spray is already in the chamber, isn't it? It seems to be working really well this way, so I just don't leave it on.
What's the purpose of the steroids? I can basically give her everything as long as it can be grinded and mixed with that paste.
The only crime she commits from time to time is to hop on the counter (strictly forbidden of course) to fetch the sponge and tear it to shreds, which made me buy sponges with one scratchy side and one fat removal side as she only shreds the yellow side. Otherwise, she really is an angel. I can even let her into the garden mostly unsupervised (only with a tracker and from time to time looking out the window) and she won't leave the premises.

I had the issue that when giving Miez her medication, it would not work properly as she was only breathing superficially. Didn't help either that she mostly starts purring once I pick her up, as according to the vet that is only superficially as well. She said we could give her a different medication first to expand her airways so that this medication can reach where it should. To avoid this, I had an idea: Get her worked up a little beforehand by throwing treats down the stairs.
Ich habe endlich rausgefunden wie ich Miez dazu bringe ihre Asthma-Medizin richtig zu nehmen. Ich hatte beim Verabreichen das Problem, dass es nicht richtig wirkte, da sie sie nur oberflächlich einatmete. Es war auch kontraproduktiv, dass sie meist anfängt zu schnurren, sobald ich sie hoch nehme. Die Tierärztin hat mir erklärt dass Schnurren nur sehr oberflächliches Atmen ist. Sie hat in Erwägung gezogen, eine Atemwegs-erweiternde Medizin zusätzlich vorab zu geben, damit das eigentliche Spray dort wirken kann, wo es soll. Um dies zu vermeiden kam mir eine Idee: Ich könnte Miez etwas sportlich beanspruchen, indem ich Leckerli die Treppe runter werfe.
Then I'll give her the spray as usual. Notice how she now breathes in with some effort? I can see through a little green flap that works as a valve that she now breathes in deeply, as I was aiming for.
Dann gebe ich ihr das Spray wie üblich. Bermerkt ihr wie sie nun mit etwas Anstrengung einatmet? Ich sehe über eine kleine grüne Klappe die als Ventil dient dass sie nun tief einarmet. Genau das wollte ich erreichen.
Afterwards she gets her other treat, a multi vitamin paste (currently with some digestion medicine mixed into it) as a thank you.
Danach bekommt sie als Dankeschön noch ihre Multivitamin-Paste (zur Zeit noch mit Verdauungs-Medizin vermischt) als Dankeschön.

The Altmühl valley is a popular bike or canoe tourist destination.
Germany has taken some serious "renaturation" steps to fix the grave errors done since the 1940s to 1980s where they straightened rivers and dried up a lot of land. E.g. at all of Altmühl's weirs they dug a little creek around it to enable fish to migrate or sometimes even bigger projects like this one:

Guess that' one differentiation where to draw the line. Unfortunately however I've seen with my own eyes a cat eating another cat's vomit, so...

I try to make her digestion medicine as appealing as possible by mixing it with some of her favourite treat (some light brown multi vitamin paste). I'm glad her overall health improved a lot but I still have to continue her medication to keep it this way.
Zeit für Miez ihre Medizin. Ich versuche ihre Verdauungs-Medizin so ansprechend wie möglich zu machen indem ich etwas von ihrem Leckerli (hellbraune Multi-Vitamin-Paste) untermische. Erfreulicherweise hat sich ihr Gesamtzustand gebessert. Damit das auch so bleibt bekommt sie weiterhin ihre Medikamente.

My parents are currently sitting my sister's cats Timmy and Luci. Since I'm in town a lot, too, I decided to bring Miez with me to best ensure her medication schedule. Timmy is such a cool guy.
Timmy spielt Vermittler zwischen seiner Schwester Luci und Miez. Meine Eltern hüten gerade die Katzen meiner Schwester Timmy und Luci. Da ich ständig in der Stadt bin, habe ich beschlossen, Miez mitzunehmen, um sicherzustellen, dass ich ihr regelmäßig ihre Medikamente geben kann. Timmy ist so eine coole Socke.
Miez and Luci are both used to having their way, so they are hissing at each other a lot. When Miez got her medication, which is mixed into a treat, Luci took notice and tried to take it away from Miez. I intervened, so Luci withdrew and kept watching.
Miez und Luci sind beide gewöhnt, den Platzhirsch zu spielen, also feinden sie sich viel gegenseitig an. Als Miez ihre Medizin gekriegt hat, die mit Leckerli vermischt ist, wollte Luci es Miez abluchsen. Nachdem ich eingeschritten bin, hat Luci sich hinten auf die Lauer gelegt.

To play fair, I gave Luci some of the treat, too.
Fairerweise hat Luci dann auch was abbekommen.
Afterwards Timmy went between them to stop them from hissing, which worked pretty well. He has done so several times already, usually first carefully approaching Miez, then his sister and finally lying down right in the middle.
Danach hat sich Timmy zwischen die Streithähne gelegt, damit das Fauchen aufhört. Das funktioniert ziemlich gut. Er hat das schon ein paar Mal gemacht: Üblicherweise geht er erst vorsichtig auf Miez zu, dann zu seiner Schwester und legt sich dann mittig zwischen beide.
This way, Miez can fully relax. I'm convinced Timmy likes her, even though at the very beginning he hissed at her as he was intimidated when Miez approached him. This amuses me as he weighs 7 kg and she only 3.5 kg. Miez simply doesn't care about other animals' size. She's very friendly if the other animal is so, too. Just a few days ago at the vet's she sat on my lap right next to a Yorkshire Terrier and both were fully relaxed.
So kann sich Miez total entspannen. Ich bin mir sicher dass Timmy sie mag, obwohl er anfangs eingeschüchtert war und sie anfauchte als Miez auf ihn zu ging. Ich find das witzig, da er 7 kg wiegt und sie nur 3,5 kg. Miez ist die Größe anderer Tiere einfach egal. Solange das andere Tier freundlich ist, ist sie es auch. Erst vor ein paar Tagen saß sie beim Tierarzt auf meinem Schoß direkt neben einem Yorkshire Terrier und beide waren komplett entspannt.

Sogar als sie Nala, die Hündin meines Kumpls traf waren beide friedlich.
And this is why we have to separate them when nobody can watch them.

Gartenzeit ist aufregend für Miez. Man kann auf einen echten Baum klettern....
...to watch birds while perfectly hidden...
...um Vögel aus perfektem Versteck zu beobachten...

...oder Mäuse durch den Zaun beobachten...
...until the neighbours dog comes and growls. Then it's time to run as fast as you can to hide (even passing the open front door).

But soon after enough reassurance, one can eat some grass.

Now she's as happy as can be and in need of some scritches.

Miez is feeling a lot better than a few weeks ago, she doesn't have painful cramps anymore. However she is still having some digestion issues, so we have to monitor her health through blood samples closely. As soon as she hears the vet's voice, she starts growling. However she doesn't bite or scratch him or me, such a brave girl.
Heute waren wir Mal wieder beim Tierarzt. Ich denke, Miez hat mir schon verziehen. Miez geht es deutlich besser als noch vor ein paar Wochen. Sie hat keine schmerzhaften Krämpfe mehr. Jedoch plagen sie immer noch Verdauungsprobleme, weshalb wir ihre Blutwerte genau im Auge behalten. Sobald sie die Stimme des Tierarztes hört, fängt sie an zu brummen. Jedoch hält sie tapfer durch ohne uns zu beißen oder kratzen.
At the vet, she definitely knows what's up. On her way home, she didn't even meow once.

Hello all, this is Miez, a 10y/o maine coon mix. She the sweetest lady you'll ever meet. She charmed quite a few "I don't like cats" into "ok I don't like all cats" in her days.
Hallo zusammen, hier ist Miez, eine 10-jährige Maine-Coon-Mischlingskatze. Sie hat zeitlebens mittels ihres Charmes schon viele "Ich mag keine Katzen" in "OK, ich mag nicht alle Katzen" gewandelt.
Usually she happily chills in the sun, jumps around on the cat wall...
Normalerweise entspannt sie in der Sonne, springt ein wenig an der Kratzwand herum...
...or comes like clockwork every two hours to my home office to demand her cuddles.
...oder man kann die Uhr danach stellen, dass sie alle zwo Stunden ihren Katzenkuschler auffordert tätig zu werden, quasi mein Nebenberuf im Homeoffice.
Well, that was until her asthma medicine was taken off the market. Turns out her replacement medicine worked well for her asthma but she got an intestinal inflammation as a (known but "very rare") side effect.
So ging es ihr ganz gut bis dann ihre Asthma-Medizin vom Markt genommen wurde. Wie sich herausgestellt hat, haben die Ersatz-Tabletten zwar für ihr Asthma gut geholfen, aber sie bekam als (bekannte "sehr selten auftretende") Nebenwirkung eine Darmentzündung.
So now I had to get her used to this inhaler. The spray comes to the left, then you put the other end over the cat's mouth and nose. Luckily she's very brave and well-behaved, so after about two weeks today she even continued purring during.
Nun musste ich sie an diesen Inhalator gewöhnen. Man steckt ein herkömmliches Asthmaspray links drauf, sprüht und stüplt dann das andere Ende über ihren Mund und Nase. Zum Glück ist sie sehr brav und tapfer. Heute nach ca. zwo Wochen hat sie dabei sogar weiter geschnurrt.
Right now I'm house sitting at my parent's, so Miez very often spends her time in her cat basket.
Momentan bin ich im Haus meiner Eltern. Dort verbringt Miez viel Zeit in ihrem Katzenkorb.
The reason: My mum's cat Franka. Franka used to be afraid of Miez, but some time ago it clicked in her head and she realized that Miez is just as afraid of her. So now, Franka knows she's boss and even takes over one of Miez's favourite spots.
Der Grund: Franka, die Katze meiner Mutter. Bis vor einer Weile hatte sie noch Angst vor Miez, bis sie irgendwann kapiert hat, dass Miez mindestens genauso viel Angst vor ihr hat. Nun lässt Franka die Chefin raushängen und schnappt Miez sogar einen ihrer Lieblingsplätze weg.
However, Miez is pretty chill about it and just switches to her favourite door mat.
Miez hingegen lässt sich davon wenig beeindrucken und wechselt einfach auf ihren bevorzugten Fußabtreter.
Blending well into the background is still the best way to fall asleep.
Gut getarnt schläft sich's am Besten.
Miez respectfully keeps her distance to Franka. Her health has improved, yet it takes her some time to fully heal.
So hält sie respektvollen Abstand zu Franka. Sie ist momentan auf dem Weg der Besserung, auch wenn es wohl noch etwas dauert bis die Entzündung vollständig abgeklungen ist.

Miez is an indoor and garden cat. I fell asleep during my lunch break in my garden chair. Woke up, went inside and called on her to follow me. Usually she comes running. This time she didn't and I didn't see her (as she was behind that small separation wall thingy). Turns out the mint kept her there

I can trust her not to leave the property as she only feels safe when I'm around. More often than not she hints at the door but won't go outside if I don't join her. So as a middle ground, from time to time I give her confirmation from the kitchen window. Been doing this for nearly two years now.
Meine Katze Miez ist kein Freigänger, aber darf immer wieder in den Garten. Ich kann ihr vertrauen, aud dem Grundstück zu bleibe, da sie sich nur in meiner Nähe sicher fühlt. Meist miaut sie an der Tür, traut sich aber dann nicht ohne mich raus. Also haben wir einen Kompromiss verhandelt: Ich schaue ab und zu vom Küchenfenster raus und spreche ihr gut zu. Das klappt seit knapp 2 Jahren so.
