  • IMO the only reason tech world can be authoritarian is people's negligence. Otherwise even if all major brands produce unhackable locked down hardware, people could boycott those and buy the one obscure open device (like pine64) and market force will force big names to revert.

Corporations do not have power by themselves. People refusing to think and understand gives them power. Same applies to mainstream politics.

  • Does op not want bookmarks or ubo? These aren't 'just showing the webpage' :)

Tbh the Firefox ai is effectively an addon. Can be disabled even I guess at packaging level (like Firefox-no-ai flatpak).

  • Co-op is using capitalism to fight some harmful effect of capitalism itself. Many Conmunist movements believe there are better and stronger alternatives.

This can be especially true for industries that are centralized by nature. You can't set up production ready silicon factory or power plant today to set up a co-op. The more practical alternative is to set up union to protect rights of workers.

  • It isn't communism, but sometimes making a co-op turns out to be more successful than forming union inside fragmented industry. A prominent example is amul from India. Instead of of forming union against highly capitalistic dairy industry, milk farmers and workers made a co-op that replaced those capitalist industries with market force.

The point was though this initiative got direct support from the government not some agenda against it.

  • Scamming children is illegal. Solution isn't banning children or requiring id to compromise others' privacy too (who for example play without gambling). This whole thing is bs.

    1. people store id in their phone most of the time.
  • What's the problem with it? These MIT programs already exists. Anyone can make proprietary version. Including in Ubuntu doesn't change that.

Also your example is pointless. Canonical would rather make a proprietary pam module instead of a custom internal fork of sudo-rs.

  • Then why tf a game is responsible for their monetory loss? Children are susceptible to many more scams. And on top of that taking such privacy invasive 'measure' to solve it doesn't make sense either. Children can even upload patent's ids if parents are so careless anyway.

  • I usually put limit on accounts or cards saved on device for everyday usage. I did the same for others in family too. Thanks to this my aunt lost only $25 when she got tech support scammed.
