  • And indeed, the impact on public health has been dramatic: After Calgary ended fluoridation, 700 percent more children needed intravenous antibiotics to avoid fatal dental infection. The city is now working to upgrade systems to turn the fluoride back on in 2025 after citizens mobilized to add it back.

  • Active living may not be the only way to address the obesity epidemic (it's endemic now, isn't it?) but it would help. People will be happier and healthier if they can get exercise as part of their day to day activities.

  • The Transport Department had said the winning contractor, which would design, build and operate the tracks,

Like a public-private-partnership? Wasn't there a post here noting that P3s were one of the reasons Canadian transit projects take too long, rarely work, and cost more than similar lines built elsewhere?

  • Generally I agree, but

you might have to code your own drivers for some of it

is a bit hyperbolic. Most of the time, most users will be using pretty standard hardware to do pretty standard things. They won't need fancy drivers to do it.

  • Media and online interactions play up the differences in US society. They run deep (their civil war, the difference between Democrat and Republican states, racial tensions), but I don't think they're as significant as your post suggests.

American culture generally seems very loud and direct. I think here in Europe people are way more reserved

I've worked with people from the US, Germans, and Finns. Generally the Germans and Finns have been more direct.

I also heard things that many Americans are physically beating their children

It's a big country. I'm sure a few are, just like a few Europeans beat their kids, but generally no. I would check your sources on that.

When I once asked a similar question on Reddit the only thing I got back was bashing and personal attacks and I hope it's not the same here

Your statements and questions seem to reference the worst that we see of the US in social media and mainstream news. For someone who lives in the US (or is cynical), they could come across as trolling.

  • The responsibility to prevent AI / SEO is ... in moderation and users verifying / certifying the quality of web-rings.

The proposal should include mechanisms to support moderation and user feedback. That flavour of crowdsourcing is difficult because users, search engine maintainers, and web ring participants may be malicious.

  • Martiza says she does too. Misty then says, "Did you know that Marcel uses raw milk instead of creamer in his coffee? What a piece of shit. It wouldn't surprise me though. Everything he does is terrible. Remember, he cheated on Mariah in 2006. He's probably cheating on Merced right now."

I don't think those are good analogies. US foreign policy has really screwed up some other countries. It'd be more like "Remember when Marcel burned Mariah's house down? And that time Marcel got Misty fired from her job? And that time Marcel stole Merced's car?"

The US has had some very positive effects on the international community, but people tend to remember how the world's only remaining superpower screwed them over.
