There's a clear division. You're trying to micromanage and for what. Let communities exist. People that want to go to the biggest community can. There's been plenty of occasions where I've seen more discussions in smaller communities.

Maybe the cosmetic changes are simply a small addition to more important changes under the hood?

To be honest, the tabs tray is mostly just cosmetic changes. The under the hood changes were done last year. That said, there's still some significant changes with things being consolidated, which makes management easier. There's a lot of work being put in to make Firefox feel and act like more of a first-class citizen on Android.
