  • Steam deck has HDR support now, which means HDR support for AMD gpus on linux will improve at accelerated rate going forward. Nvidia users (me included) can can only look with envy I guess.

  • Don't forget the CEO's salary is $5.7M. If you subtract the CEO's and other execs' salary from those $20M total, the salary of ordinary employees would probably way less than $200k.

  • Signal's CEO salary is $5.7M, not sure about the other execs salary, but we probably can speculate that the execs compensation is half of total salary expense, so those 50 rank and file employees probably cost 200k in salary and benefits instead of 400k.

  • In my country, all carrier here would block bulk SMS sending (and terminate your phone number if they think you abuse it) unless they come from a special short number account (e.g. those with 4 - 5 digits phone number), and those account is not cheap. That's where the telcos made money from sms these days now that ordinary people don't use sms much. They would partner with api providers such as Twillio to setup the account. You can review Twilio international sms pricing for an overview of sms prices across the globe. In my country, it's 50x more expensive than US.

  • It's a long shot, but sometimes when I have issues with proton which I can't figure out, switching from Wayland to X11 (or vice versa) magically fixed it.

  • You made your KDE desktop to look like Gnome with widgets?! WTF?! I thought it was gnome at the first glance.

  • Pair programming? Then the code is already reviewed.

  • Why use scraper on Lemmy when bots can federate and have the data directly sent to them?

  • Instead of guessing, looking at the log might help. Launch the game with PROTON_LOG=1 %command% set in "Set Launch Options" setting in the game properties. The log file will appear on your home directory.

  • No! If capitalism gone, my 0.0000000001% chance of becoming a billionaire would be gone as well!

  • Hmm, the Arch one seems to be incorrect. People who wear a buttplug won't randomly announce that they're wearing buttplug.

  • I didn't even considered running iTunes on linux too. But after installing linux on my macbook, I realized I need to cancel some apps subscriptions only to realized you have to use either an apple device or iTunes for windows to do that. No option to manage your subscription via web at all! After unsuccessful attempt at running iTunes on linux, I ended up dusting off an old ipad mini 2 from my drawer and cancel the subscription from there (thanks god it can still connect to app store, it's still on ios 12).

  • Dude, the kids must've love you. You basically bought a PS5, a PS Portal and a bunch of PS5 games (which usually more expensive than their PC counterparts) and perhaps a PS plus subscription just for your friends' kids.

  • But it does look like more comfortable to hold than psvita. My hands hurt if I play my vita without a grip, which essentially turns the vita into a boomerang.

  • Proton works great for gaming because the narrow set of gaming-related API allows Valve and CodeWeaver to focus their effort to make sure most games run well. Windows has a lot more API though and a good percentage of them is still doesn't work that well in wine, which means many apps still have issues or outright unusable in wine. For example, I think iTunes for Windows still doesn't work in wine.

  • I mean, you're on Lemmy, where a great number of Linux users gather.
