Elon has stated his distaste for Apple, and seems to be taking it out on its users. Who are notoriously, well...dedicated. Oh, and there are viable alternatives to Xitter, both federated and not.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm sure I'm just too stupid to see how this is a Big Brain move here...
And I'll say it until I'm blue in the face, that shouldn't matter. Because we should have universal vote by mail.
My state does this, and as far as I can tell there are zero downsides (eXcEpt iT wAsTes taXpayERs' MoNeY). Like the social aspect of voting on election day? Drop your ballot off in person, or just change your mind and vote in person.
Speaking completely out of my ass, I think mail-in ballots would do wonders for down ballot engagement. My state has this, and it's invaluable --- often there are weird down ballot measures which are confusingly worded, and sometimes local elections have a "vote for 10 candidates out of the 34 who are running." Voting at home means I can tackle it at my leisure --- no memorization or cheat sheets required.
Median would be the more generally correct number to use, but apparently IQ (debatable as a proxy for intelligence...) is roughly normally distributed, so either is likely close enough.
Thanks! That sounds like a good option. Mostly would want to avoid something that's flooding the network with DNS requests --- a few attempts at phoning home now and then are, like you say, probably inevitable.
I picked up an old HP LaserJet (with the Ethernet option) for free during grad school. It was a great printer --- good CUPS/Linux support, reliable, cheap 3rd party toner.
It's sad how the mighty have fallen. Would never recommend one for someone today.
How about we give parents one extra vote per child.
But they have to wait 18 years to use it.
And they can't directly use it, it's more that they get a delegate of sorts.
And this delegate --- let's call them, I dunno, their kid "offspring voter" --- isn't legally bound to vote one way or another.
And how about this person votes in a manner that in some way reflects how they were raised, and their worldy experiences --- possibly voting exactly as the parents would, or possibly exactly opposite, or anywhere in between.
