  • Someone pointed out this persons LCARS css themes to me on another thread, they might at the very least be some good inspiration for someone who was interested and knew how to translate a theme like this to lemmy.

    https://www.thelcars.com/

  • Thank you for all your hard work, I am broke af right now but I will definitely contribute to a patreon once I get a steady income again!

This is a really cool moment to be involved in the future of social media, this community might be humble and small right now but it is part of the bleeding edge of the evolution of social media.

  • Those themes are gorgeous. I mean who knows, I think there is a good chance that person would be excited about having a form of their lcars theme used for startrek.website!

  • The Pelia plotline was by far the most interesting part of the episode in my opinion, I think it is hilarious and fascinating that a nearly immortal creature stumbles into a heist in progress and is like "sure, I'll help, I'm so boredddddd"

  • Yeah I think there are probabllllyy consequences to taking that substance, maybe the show won't deliver on them but I would be a bit surprised if it didn't. I don't feel like they are just not going to mention that again.

  • Let me be clear, I am a dog, I don't even have hands. Accessibility is super important to me!

    jokes aside

    • click your profile name in the top right corner
    • click settings
    • scroll down to the themes option

You will find that you can change the theme startrek.website appears to you in. By default lemmy already has a couple loaded. We could easily add a special theme to this website that was fun and star trek themed that was opt-in for users, or at least easily opt-outable by going into the settings and changing the theme.

We have a fantastic freedom here to indulge in a very treky themed startrek.website while still making sure to value accessibility and flexibility for those that need it by virtue of lemmy giving control to the user over which theme to choose to display startrek.website in. That is one of the fun, but underappreciated aspects of fediverse software. You get to choose how everything looks!

On the note of making a lemmy theme focused on accessibility, I am sure the lemmy community would be more than thrilled if people created accessibility focused themes for startrek.website , other lemmy instances would surely benefit from that work too!--

  • Hmm, I don't know it depends on the context. I am on startrek.website and for that community with a lot of new star trek fans coming in who don't necessarily know much about federation and the fediverse I think having the default be local to just star trek content makes way more sense. For other communities not built around a specific fanbase having the default be all makes way more sense. It just depends I think.

Come to think of it, we should rename "all" to "UFP" lol

  • I think until a community reaches a certain size, "new" should just be the default initial setting for users maybe? Idk

  • Good choice on your mom's part, kira is badass. Seriously, I don't know why everyone isn't terrified of getting in her way sometimes hahaha, she is a freight train of willpower.

Sign up for an account here at startrek.website! Even if you don't use it as your main account you could pick out a funny star trek related name and use it for comedic purposes on comments.... not that I would ever do that of course.

  • Weird, I wonder what the story is to this... I mean how could this happen by accident? An actor was assigned an alien costume to wear and they accidentally put on the Jem'hadar costume and then nobody noticed? Idk

  • Is this before anybody on DS9 knows who the Jem'hadar are or what they look like? I can't remember.

  • Yeah I think Burnham being aggressive there if anything probably ended up saving lives, but that is easy to forget in retrospect because we basically just see those events commented on later in the series by the way rando starfleet people ostracize her because they have been told a story that uses her as a scapegoat.

  • Maybe we could just reward people with ferengi themed flair for donating on patreon? Then all other types of flair could be kept unrelated to money or ferengis and be rewarded for stuff that doesn't require money :P

  • More apps will be made. Until this recent reddit debacle, lemmy was an interesting fediverse software but while it had a stable community of users it really hadn't hit any major growth spikes that began to broaden its use.

Now lemmy will definitely be a target of a lot more app development since there are just so many more people using it!

  • Yeah, and I think it was a wonderful move. Star Trek is nerdy but also approachable to a wide range of people so I think it is a perfect early adopter of lemmy.

  • Yeah they DEFINITELY aren't the same communities. For lemmy and kbin instances (the two reddit-like softwares on the fediverse) communities are like subreddits but they are subreddits specific to that particular website/instance (startrek.website, lemmy.wordl). Many different lemmy instances/websites (and kbin instances/websites for that matter too) can have their own /c/politics, they are entirely separate entities that just happen to share a name.

A bit confusing, not gonna lie lol, but I think it ultimately makes sense as a way to structure things.

Also kbin calls subreddits "magazines" and an example of a subreddit on a kbin instance is https://kbin.social/m/gaming

  • I wish this kind of interrogation didn't work, it is a dangerous stereotype to convey that torture works... it ends up with people supporting torture in real life when it actually really doesn't reliably get truthful information from people.
