  • No, it's the website you linked (yarn.co) that uses cloudflare protection (against bots, DDoS attacks etc). When it detects any traffic it deems unusual, it shows a captcha that the visitor needs to click before being able to view the image. It can't display a captcha when you've embedded the image into a Lemmy post though, so the image just won't load at all in that case.

  • I started and finished Herdling all in one go. Nice, relaxed game with a beautiful atmosphere. The mechanics are relatively simple but with the game being so short, they don't overstay their welcome. There was also a link at the end of the credits sequence which lead to a promotion where you can send the publisher a self-addressed envelope and they send you... something back. I did that, so I'm curious what it will be. Expecting stickers though.

I've also been playing some Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader. 24 hours in and only scratching the surface, so classic CRPG I guess. The game strikes quite a good balance between story/reading, combat and space exploration.

  • Also, implying that she may be apponted undemocratically because we didn’t elect her directly is naive at best and outright dishonest at worst

I never said that. No, it's because we had a democratic process set up for the previous election, which the commission chose to ignore this time. See also my other comment. It's not just me saying this either, much of the parliament was furious at the way she was chosen.

  • Here. Basically before the 2014 election, a new process of a "lead candidate" proposed by the European parliament was introduced to make the appointment of the president of the commission a bit more democratic. That worked in 2014 and for the 2019 election, the parliament once again selected a lead candidate. However this time, the commission just decided to ignore it and instead chose Von der Leyen.

  • (well, the politicians we voted for)

Don't forget the politician we didn't vote for though: Ursula von der Leyen. Her selection process was undemocratic as hell and she's one of the main people responsible for the so-called deal we got.

  • I guess I'd choose greed, as not having that would quickly lead to a society with more equality and justice. That would have the positive side effect of reducing religious extremism as well, since that is often (but not always) the product of people living in desparate situations.

  • I don't think that's the case. Most people don't want to consume AI-generated content, especially books. Pretty sure there aren't any really popular books that are AI-generated. Just some bottom-tier slop on sites like Amazon, made to fool people into believing they're real books. If you're competing with those, you wouldn't have been successful anyway. Being a successful author has always been very hard and involves a lot of luck.

  • To be honest I wasn’t aware GOG even had a Linux client!

It doesn't. This is Heroic launcher, which is an unofficial launcher that can download games from EGS, GOG and Amazon. It does support Proton generally, not sure why it doesn't in this case.

  • Are there any people who even liked shenmue 3?

I haven't played it yet, but I've noticed way more positive opinions online about the game the further we got from its release date. It's currently 75% positive-rated on Steam and even 92% from recent reviews.

I think the game was way overhyped, but now that people don't expect it to be some monumental achievement, some actually do like it.
