  • A phone that's off is off. No power supplied to the components, so it can't record anything. It would be trivially easy to find out if it were otherwise, not to mention your battery would get drained.

The phone somehow "seeing through objects" is just straight up fiction. How is that supposed to work?

  • Yep, very common sound to hear in European forests and a sign that spring is here.

What's also interesting about them is that they don't build nests. They just lay their eggs in other birds' nests and let them take care of their young. The baby cuckoo will throw the other baby birds out of the nest so it'll get all the food.

  • With the Android app, I believe you'll need to write the data to something like an NFC card which then acts as an Amiibo. I got a Pixl.js device off Aliexpress for 12€, which came preloaded with all amiibos (up to that point).

I managed to put the Prime 4 amiibos on it now as well. The unlocks are nice, but far from essential I have to say. The music gives the motorcycle sections some variety, but I kind of prefer the original ambience, as it gives more of an eery desert vibe.

  • I didn't. I actually recently bought one of those Amiibo spoofing devices, but I haven't found any .bin files for the MP4 Amiibos yet. From what I've read, they unlock a number of musical tracks you can play while on the bike, as well as some visual bike customization options. The music especially would be nice to have, as it would make trekking through the desert less monotonous.

  • That does sound like an interesting scenario. I guess the big challenge here will be getting the actual self driving implemented and approved across manufacturers. Also, if we had that, couldn't the car just as easily connect to a physical docking port of some sort? But I guess a wireless charging pad would be more friendly to various car shapes.

  • Good point. Personally, I haven't actually encountered a charger that was vandalized to a point where it didn't work though. And I'm not sure whether these are more or less prone to have technical issues compared to regular cable chargers.

  • I got it a day early yesterday and I've played around 4 hours now. I quite like it so far. Graphics are gorgeous and the soundtrack is amazing. Gameplay-wise it's pretty much the familiar Metroid Prime gameplay loop of exploring, puzzle solving and getting upgrades. Riding the bike is fun, but the hub world itself is pretty empty and pretty much just a way to get from one area to the another. Due to that structure, the various zones you explore aren't as interconnected as they were in older Prime games. Overall, the 8/10 ratings it gets on average seem about right to me. It's not groundbreaking, but still a very good entry in the Metroid Prime series.

  • It would be more like 3 years though, as he's 15 right now. Maybe reducing the money for now and paying the rest into a fund to give OP's brother once he turns 18 might be a solution. The parents should still be able to provide for their son, but no reason to let them save up any money.

  • I'm 2 hours in and I'm really enjoying it. Visuals and soundtrack are fantastic. Gameplay is mostly classic Metroid Prime so far. Story seems a bit formulaic (Collect X of object Y to escape the planet). Despite what some people have said I don't find it overly handhold-y, especially for a Nintendo game. The first major NPC you meet, Myles, is a tad annoying but not as bad as some of the previews made it seem.

  • Haven't had any issues criticizing Russia on here. It also looks like the account you were arguing against was banned for the same exchange (link). So even though the ban may or may not have been justified, concluding that this community is run by Russian sympathizers frankly doesn't hold up.

  • I think it's pretty cool. The game does have a lot of pre-written dialogue as well, so it's just an additional interaction you can have with NPCs. It also does require a detailed backstory, motivations, personality etc to be written for each NPC you can chat with, so I wouldn't exactly call it lazy.
