If you could create a new religion, what would you include to make it wholesome, interesting and helpful for the world?
  • I don't think it matters what you include, people are perfectly OK taking parts as they will and leaving others behind when it suits them. Organized religion creates a hierarchy, and there is always someone who will want to bend the hierarchy for themselves but not others.

  • Yep.
  • More interesting I think is what it would have been at other points in history and whether this type of renewal would have been able to prevent the current shitshow. 20y might be a bit short as well, something more like 40y could make sense though.

  • It is very common in kids shows and movies (and annoyed me even as a kid) I think it's producers and execs going for what they think the lowest common denominator's intelligence is. And they just assume kids are too stupid to pick up context without explanation. It also helps them extend the showtime for cheap.

  • Taxing Very High-Value Home Sales Is an Equitable and Effective Strategy to Raise Revenue and Fund Affordable Housing
  • Well it should at least be marginal like tax brackets not just +/- . Say tax starts at 500k. Then for a sale at 510k only that last 10k is taxed. So selling for more still nets more no weird spots where it makes sense to sell for less just to avoid tax.

  • Rs have the house. Laws need both chambers to agree. The Rs didn't even pass a border bill because Biden supported it. SCOTUS is made of what it is and would require the house(which, again, Rs) to bring a trial to the senate to impeach any justices. In these scenarios what legal power do Dems have to stop this shit besides adding it on to the other thousand things that the DOJ has to gear up and fight for, knowing it's only a delay to SCOTUS doing whatever the fuck the Rs feel like.

  • The Biden administration’s new automatic braking rule is “impractical,” auto industry says
  • Thing is like none of our roads are properly tested for the posted speed limits. Interstates can often go up to a 75 limit and regular traffic will go at 85 (because cops dont care til more than 10 over and that difference adds up on long trips) with some people going 90+.

  • Alzheimer’s Breakthrough: New Peptide Treatment Reverses Cognitive Decline
  • Where trials will be run and eligibility will depend on industry/clinical partners. Unsure what the in/exclusion criteria will be as it seems to be better for early stages and alzheimers isn't the easiest disease to catch early. They may also want to do an NHP (non-human primate) trial before going to humans depending on what side-effects they saw in the mice and weren't mentioned in this news article.
