YSK how to find the proper air pressure for your tires
  • Only on holidays. If I pick up some furniture, I don't bother, but when I'm driving for one or two days straight with 4 people and luggage in the car, yes definitely. It helps that I can check/adjust my tire pressure where I wash my car every two weeks. I'm really particular about the handling of my car and the tires I drive on, so I'm always on top of the correct pressure.

  • YSK: The term "Genuine Leather", it is not to reassure you that their product is made of leather, rather its the name of the lowest grade of leather a company can use.
  • I love meat, I like a good leather jacket. I want a world where we take good care of our animals, take no more than we need and then use the entire animal as efficiently as possible. Reality however is a lot more cruel and wasteful. It is everyone's personal choice but I chose to stop purchasing cow and pig products.

  • Lemmy and Mastodon feel like the real web3.
  • Web 1.0, users form communities on bulletin boards, internet forums and newsgroups. It's the birth of Web 2.0, investors and advertisers see potential in large user bases. This leads to social media and mobile apps as fronts for tracking users and big data collection. Smart home and wearables become a plot to bring tracking hardware into your life even when you aren't actively engaging on the internet. The tech billionaire is born at the cost of the privacy and wallet of the user. Web 3.0, a federated Web 1.0 where users take back control of the internet. Tech billionaires live in homeless shelters and eat ramen noodles.

  • When I setup a new browser, I always delete all the default search engines and install DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Qwant and Startpage. If I'm looking for accurate results, I always use 2 or 3 of these. I can't say I consistently get better results using one or the other.

  • If the registration process just picked a random instance for you, maybe something nearby, and assured new users that they can visit communities and interact with users across instances, very few would pick the biggest instance.

  • What OS do you use on your pc and why?
  • Windows 11. It came with a license, I'm depending on the Adobe Suite and several productivity tools that run trouble free on a Windows machine. My instance has been cleaned up by Windows 10 Debloater and Shutup10. I feel like I need to make excuses for using Windows but when it's set up properly, it is very familiar and intuitive. Plus, whenever you get new equipment or need a niche plugin, you can count on it that they'll have a well maintained Windows application.

  • Does it make sense to upgrade my ethernet cables?
  • First and foremost, the user that adviced you to look at the connection speed is 100% right. If you establish a gigabit link with a gigabit device, it makes no sense to upgrade other than future proofing.

There's no point in going beyond Cat 6a. Keep in mind that the length of the cable is a big factor as well. For 1/2.5GbE, Cat 5e is plenty (for at least 100m). If you plan on going to 5/10GbE now or in the near future, Cat 6a will get you there with ease (for at least 100m). In both cases, keep the cable as close to the required length as possible + a 30cm/1ft service loop (slack) on each end. That will cause no more signal degradation then necessary and make for a clean install.

  • Reddit insists on being “fairly paid” amid API price protest plans, layoffs
  • Absolutely. I want it to be a clear consequence of their anti-user policies. And I want Netflix to crash and burn for taking away account sharing. At the moment, the power is fully in the hands of corporations and stakeholders. We need to show that users can organise and have the power to pull the plug on a service or community if they are being treated like cash cows.
