  • I'll never read /Foo as divide by foo haha. Too much time on the linuxes.

Unfortunately acronyms are a rather ingrained feature of English text communication, and db0 is how that falls out. Not sure you'll win this one.

  • Watching people spruke western approved tyranny and murder: Ok, diversity of opinions, marketplace of ideas

Watching people jack off about how NK is secretly really good or something: Harmful, dangerous, needs to be quarantined.

I find it so tedious. Most of the people who Pearl clutch over this come from a state that has been ruled by murderous war criminals for at least half a century.

  • I find the average user less grating than the average world or ohshitit'sjustfash users. There's some fucking wankers but hey it's the internet.

Good to get perspectives critical of the imperial core and usually more insightful than the average conservative/lib take. Like I might think that glazing NK is hilarious, but it's not like you don't find hundreds of users glazing farcial "representative" democracies constantly which are only marginally further along in terms of real freedom to act in a way contrary to the nation state.

  • Fourth largest country in the world, a pseudo-democracy like our government, right off the coast. You don't hear a fucking whisper about them unless some moron is breaching their boarders during a dick polishing exercise.

  • Don't use the passive voice and weasel-words. If you want to make claims make them.

It could be argued that the use of the passive voice and the abstract attribution of an argument to a nebulous other. A practice which has been described in some literature as the use of "weasel-words", has a deleterious effect on comprehension and dilutes discussion by making unclear the distinction between the beliefs of interlocutors and mere speculation.

  • I dunno how much blood is personally on his hands, but the government certainly continues to support and arm their genocidal regime.

Settler-colonial solidarity I suppose :s would be nice if our lords and masters could be on the right side of history for once.

Something I really struggle with on this shit, is the government has cracked down so hard here, but like aboriginal Aussies are still undergoing genocide here as we speak. Massive overpolicing, massively higher deaths in custody, massively higher deaths in healthcare, horrific amounts of racism. Yet apparently we need a special action body on legitimising Israel :|

  • That sucks. Anywhere where potatoes feature would probably have them on hand and be happy to just roast some if you could had the language to ask? Might be a generalised approach from hot chips as the backup in olive oil Europe anyway. Butter Europe would not necessarily be vegan.

When I have travelled I've usually been in sea and because of Buddhism it's been easier, although sometimes there's confusion about prawns.

  • My wife followed it closely and is a bit of a lawy person from a family of lawyers.

From what she relayed it seems difficult to explain why she took all the actions she did, except if she did a murder, but given that murder has the bar of intent as well I'm not really sure the prosecution established that she did murder.

But like she obviously collected, preserved, and then fed people poisonous mushrooms just like did she intend to kill people beyond reasonable doubt? Idk

  • After studying court verdicts a bunch by attitude has always been that if I ever end up in irons try my hardest to get a bench trial with sentencing after lunch.

  • I don't do much travel but I'm not above existing on cold canned beans for a few days /shrug. Have always been able to find that

  • I find that the historical precedent of commons and allotments has many appealing safeguards built into it. And end to corporate buy ups and land speculation for instance. In leftist economic theory a distinction is usually made between personal property (stuff you use, your toothbrush etc) and private property (the means of production, agricultural land, factories etc held by individuals or companies for the purpose of exploitation).

It might serve a farmer to say over-exploit land and wear it out but a community that lives there, presumably having young people and children, are unlikely to feel that way. Similarly is a community unlikely to leave a field fallow because holding land that is not in use to later sell is very profitable. People invested in their personal property and local community, the business of living somewhere and presumably some of them farming the commons; they are still invested in paying attention to the environment and quality of the land.

You have probably heard of the tragedy of the commons but this was based off highly unusual transient conditions (sort of like the alpha wolf study) and historical evidence points to many enduring and stable arrangements. https://ian.umces.edu/blog/the-triumph-of-the-commons-no-actually-it-can-happen/ is a good primer and Ostrum, E's work for further study if curious.

I am defs also keen on citizen's assemblies, more democracy is awesome and evidence shows that true democracy (i.e. broad opinions and randomly drafted shmucks) consistently returns good results.

  • It would be cool if we could actually like try the UDHR, just once, as a treat.

  • Maybe not, ostensibly if you're persecuted you could seek asylum and you're probably a lot less likely to be killed overall.

I defs wouldn't give my life to defend people that don't respect me. Conscription is a crime against humanity at the best of times but conscripting people without full rights is straight up evil.

  • Imagine getting conscripted to die for a government that doesn't even think you're fully human...

  • I don't know who this person is but aside from the eusocial animals humans are probably the next most social creatures. Talking about fending for yourself is batshit insane, how would you even do that? Everything we have, know, or do involves other human beings.

  • I would agree, which is why I tend to come down against private property/privatisation of land. It serves everyone to have agriculture, but only if that agriculture is done in a way which serves everyone. Of course a community controlling its land and allocating it to people who want to use it to benefit the community is no guarantee they use it responsibly, as we can see with this one.

Managing things like environmental impact requires a very large scale view and coordination, a river might be able to tolerate run off from the first farm, but by the 50th downstream it might be cooked. It's difficult to expect the person at the first farm to really understand their impact and responsibility. Significant attitude changes are needed, almost everyone in Australia behaves in ways the earth cannot sustain and which violently exploit other animals including other humans (e.g. our diets, our trinkets). We really need to reframe what being a human in the world means and what responsibilities it entails, and set up institutions that make it easier instead of harder.

  • They raised this in nsw a few years back. Shame it didn't take, the data are in it just makes sense. It's such a minor part of anyone's commute and it would have benefits in safety for humans, non humans, and noise level reductions.

  • See? outing your barely repressed antisocial violent urges.
