Physical dark mode
  • Yeah I guess that's fair, but I think that the fact that the light isn't directly shining in your eyes but is reflected, makes quite a difference. Still, use whatever mode feels most comfortable to you! Just sharing knowledge.

  • Physical dark mode
  • FYI ereaders don't emit light even with the light on. They use lights hidden on the sides under the bezels, and that light gets distributed above the screen using a kind of gel layer. The screen then reflects that light back.

  • Nothing Phone builds a blue bubble iMessage bridge while Google and Apple fight over RCS
  • How is Apple keeping iMessage an Apple exclusive anticompetitive? That's like saying Google needs to share their search algorithms because they're "leveraging their position in the search engine market to shore up their restrictive products."

In the end, Apple created a service that is massively popular and makes people want to use their products. The fact that US teenagers refuse to use one of their many competitors is hardly their fault. The rest of the world doesn't give a shit about iMessage either.

  • Sure it is
  • Yeah so apparently it's a real picture taken quite some time ago that has been upscaled. It looks absolutely horrendous though and 100% fake, especially the parts you highlighted. I guess I'm not terminally online enough to recognize a repost or something, but weirdly enough I'm OK with that.

  • Does anyone drink instant coffee anymore?
  • (B) No waste/by-products (e.g. filter, brewed coffee granules residue, blah blah) - so much less carbon footprint.

Not sure how you come to this conclusion. The waste is the same (if not more), just ends up somewhere else. Also, you're adding a whole extra process (freeze drying) requiring extra energy, and water needs to be boiled twice (during brewing and at home).

  • Who the hell likes Chromatic Aberration?
  • Depth of field is an incredibly important tool for photographers? Not sure why you think they try to avoid it 99% of the time (apart from the fact that you literally can't avoid it, but I'm assuming you mean shallow DoF).

  • Amazon Prime Video is able to remove a video from your library after purchase.
  • Yep that's why I don't understand all those people with Kindles and huge Amazon book collections. They can literally take it all away on a whim. If I want to own a book I'll purchase a physical copy, but ebooks? High seas for me. I feel like a 'free' ePub in my Dropbox is safer than whatever proprietary format in my Amazon account.

Edit - getting mostly replies defending ebooks and stating disadvantages of physical books (also, yeah I know books "aren't for showing of" lol, like that's the only reason for owning a book).

Just want to add I have both and get their pros and cons. I read tons on my ereader too, just not a Kindle because fuck that closed system, it's not for me (for reasons mentioned above).

  • My new Mako 40 salmon dial!

Can't wait for a strapcode bracelet to become available, since this colorway only is available with a leather nato, and I don't like to wear leather or nato's. I have some sailcloth and perlon for in the meantime though!
