Where to start?
  • Episodic is good!

Im prepared for slow start with TNG-era stuff, not sure if im prepared for TOS. But checking out a few episodes camt hurt, i guess i for some reason think i have to commit to one series from start to end and that is obviously not true

  • Where to start?
  • Good to know. Currently leaning towards starting from TNG first season and trying to go through it all, but will definitely check out voyager before abandoning ship if tng does not stick.

  • Where to start?
  • Thats a fun idea! If i knew about this before it would have been cool to do it in parallel from the start. I think i at the very least will definitely aim to go through LD again after having seen through 90s stuff if i ever get that far to pick up on the references!

  • Where to start?
  • Thanks for the list! I think it will be either this or try to watch TNG from the start and follow the 90s shows. But SNW first is still a contender

Btw what do you mean by syndication?

  • Where to start?
  • I think ill reserve TOS for if i become a trekkie! Hehe

I definitely need some of that brighter future-stuff right about now. I think what i mean with adventure of the week i mean problem of the week. It doesnt have to be jungles and temples and stuff. But i dont want that hbo-style "oh we are so dark and you have to pay attention for every fucking second of every episode or you will lose the thread because we are so intrcate and did i mention we are dark now fuck off and get depressed"

  • Where to start?
  • Ok, that was kindof what i had in mind so good to see that suggested. I imagine i can get a lot of addtional fun it of LD after having seen everything else. But then TNG-era before or after SNW?

Never heard of prodigy, ill check that out as well!

  • Where to start?
  • Hehe yea, i can see that - never saw season 2 of Picard which i heard is completely bonkers? I think tos will be a little too old for me, but it seems i will probably check out tng first. Just gotta decide if i wanna jump around like some suggested or just force my way throguh the first seasons

  • Where to start?

I want to get into the Star Trek universe but dont know where to start. I have previously seen first three seasons of Disocvery and first season of picard. Picard was cool but disocvery didnt quite track, a little boring and not adventure focused enough. However loving lower decks now (just started season 4) and want to get into the more canon stuff.

I have access to TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise and SNW. TOS i could probanly get access to if i want, but gotta admit that is not very enticing.

    So where to start? TNG?

If it helps (and i dont get shunned for this), i am a stargate guy and love especially sg-1 and the adventure of the week format and the character ensemble

Backing up my media collection on something like rsync.net?
  • Ok thanks i will look into B2 (is that just shorthand for backblaze or is it something in particular?)

I asked below here as well so no need to answer multiple times, but will restic encrypt when transferring or does it require that i can store the entire encrypted archive locally as well? or is that just borg?

  • Backing up my media collection on something like rsync.net?
  • thanks, thats very helpful!

One (maybe stupid) question - since restic encrypts, does it do this in transfer or would i need to have additional space on my local hard drives for the encrypted archive?

edit: got an answer to this above: does not require intermediate storage! :)

  • Backing up my media collection on something like rsync.net?
  • I wouldn’t

Is it rsync in general you wouldnt or rsync.net?

Never heard of restic so i will definitely need to check this out. I was not planning on having a solution that is continuously running but rather dumping everything there once and then sync new file maybe once a month or something.

  • Theyve won for their rendition of metaknight's revenge (kirby) previously. Cool band, love that video game music is becoming a new standard jazz library. Many people who grew up with and love video game music are now professional jazz musicians.

  • Backing up my media collection on something like rsync.net?

I have a couple of local copies of my media collection, but in case of my house burning down in a fire i would like to not have to rebuild my entire media collection. rsync.net offers some fairly reasonable storage prices (i guess there are many other good options as well).

Would you guys have any second thoughts on storing the entirety of your media collection on a remote server like that unencrypted?

Monthly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing?
  • Just got a surface duo i will use for nintendo ds emulation, so when i get my new gamepad and stylus in the mail later this week i will pick up and start an old ds game i have never played. But i havent decided yet so im not really answering your question.....

  • Stylus for Surface Duo?
  • Thanks! Cant really find any passive ones for sale in my country and ordering online from amazon or ebay becomes quite expensive with shipping and taxes. I found a used surface pen on a local online market so I made a request for that. Thanks for letting me know about those, this stylus stuff is confusing....

  • Stylus for Surface Duo?

I just bought a second-hand surface duo running android for the sole purpose of emulating nintendo ds. I want a stylus to emulate that part of the experience, but all styluses are a lot more expensive than i anticipated. But they seem to include stuff i really dont need such as bluetooth connectivity and such like.

Can i just get any pointy plastic thing to use as a stylus or do i need one of these that connect to the phone?

    Safe DraStic .apk download?

I recently got a used surface duo for the sole purpose of emulating nintendo ds and 3ds. I have retroarch running with Desmume but as far as i understand, drastic offers better performance on android.

I know i can get it on the play store (for now at least), but i dont have a google account (and i will not sign up for one). I can see that there are many sites offering downloads of an .apk, but they all seem pretty shady to me.

What would be the best way to get a malware-free .apk for drastic? Am i better of waiting for it to go open source and build it myself?

Leakage of data from Smart-TV jellyfin apps?

This is maybe a little paranoid but... i have a jellyfin server that i let some family members use. one of them intends to use an app for apple tv, which i think is swiftfin or something like that. i am a bit skeptical about smart-TVs and the data they phone home with, so i was wondering if there is any chance that i could be compromised due to the linux isos i host on jellyfin due to some sneaky smart-TV stuff?

Best way of pirating printed magazines?

What is considered the best/safest way to pirate printed magazines? On the Awesome Piracy-repo, there are some links, but they either don't work or look sus (except for maybe magazinelib.com).

If you endulge in free printed magazines, what is your preferred way?
