The cult of Obsidian: Why people are obsessed with the note-taking app
  • what sucks about notion's AI stuff is that you can't even opt out of it. Back when I used to be a notion user part of what made me leave is that doing commands with the forward slash was always shoving AI shit in my face lol

  • The cult of Obsidian: Why people are obsessed with the note-taking app
  • my situation is very similar to yours; I was previously an obsidian user but then switched to logseq for everything. I really wonder why logseq website doesn't hype up the fact that it's an outliner, because imo that's what sets it apart from similar programs. I didn't even know what an outliner was until recently

  • Do you know any good JRPGs with engaging gameplay similar to SMT?
  • imo it's worth it to play the megaten spinoffs in general, just like what helix said in another comment here. In particular I would like to recommend Devil Survivor because of a lot of things: has a skill steal (skill crack) system so you progressively get better skills for yourself and your demons, makes you think about how you make your team, the first game has the best alignment ending choices in the whole megaten series, the demon auction system, and more. Also: Octopath traveler and its sequel are good

  • Zoom terms of use updated to allow AI training on user-generated data, no opt-out
  • This sucks. A lot of people like me only use zoom because classes/webinars/meetings/interviews are hosted there and we can't really complain about something we have to attend for our own good, especially if everyone else is doing it. It sucks so bad, I hate how it's like this. I wish people in my country would care enough to find this AI shit a red flag, but sadly I don't think so.

  • using discord is morally lazy
  • I wonder why author (is it OP?) chose to share an unfinished blog post? First time I'm seeing a draft being shared. It also confuses me that the title makes it seem like it's about the user but the article talks about venture capital funding, unsustainable computing, and financial feasibility? Most casual users doesn't care about stuff like that, that stuff is the company's problem, so why the accusatory title?

  • Non right-wing tech podcasts?
  • Love the recommendations here! Would also like tech YouTube or general content creator recommendations too since a lot of them say some really sus shit that has nothing to do with tech. Recently unsubbed from one that outright made a blatantly sexist joke complete with visuals

  • Bear 2 is a terrific notes app — and it only took forever to build
  • I love Bear and used to use it a lot, but don't want to be locked into just apple stuff. Still I am glad to see they're still going strong and I'm really happy they aren't forcing AI integration (which is something Notion has done/is currently doing and monetizing...).

  • Another reason to leave Reddit: I forgot how hostile it can be
  • I can relate to that a lot. I usually also comment on niche subs with a help question. Not sure what it is about reddit that makes the common redditor act like a hostile person with a superiority complex. It's very irritating, like they do the opposite of touching grass 24/7 and hate you for posting.

Beehaw and Lemmy are much smaller so that's also why the quality of the people here is just overall better. the moderation style in beehaw also helps. It also helps me feel like I can freely comment the way I want to.

  • In praise of the short narrative video game...
  • So glad to see Roadwarden mentioned! Another short game I played recently is Paradise Marsh. Its not really text-focused (it's more dialogue and only some snippets of lore pieces) but it's a short simple game with a very nice story. It also has birds that make poems!

  • What games need a remaster?
    • .hack IMOQ (I was coping so hard after GU got a remaster but still nothing)
    • Dragon age origins
    • Digimon world 3. There have been two reboots/reimaginings of digimon world 1 (re digitized decode, and next order), but never anything about world 2 and 3.
  • Is Jerboa for Lemmy crashing for anyone else?
  • it's been crashing ever since that version error message started appearing. I have since uninstalled it and am just accessing beehaw using my mobile browser. It's actually pretty good. Sure I know there are other apps in development but I would like them to mature a bit more before I try to get into them, especially considering my buggy experience with jerboa.

  • Humble Bundle: The Complete Learn Coding MEGA Bundle
  • Humble bundles for learning materials tend to be really poor. I've tried buying a programming bundle before and it was definitely worse than a lot of other free/accessible coding resources on the internet. Some may be tempted with the low prices but if someone wants a paid course there are more reputable resources that aren't part of the bargain bin bundles that humble bundle offers.

Of course, this is just my experience.

  • What search engine do you use?
  • DDG for everyday usage. Sometimes I try searching the same things on google just to compare results. I've tried searxng instances on and off in the past but its rarely been reliable for me and self hosting isn't really an option for me.
