vote, please
  • Many are suffering, and it’s not in a good state right now. But it also means being strategic about it. The issue with the right and far right is that many people who hold those beliefs have a common goal and are unified in it (even if it’s because their candidates are somewhat less popular as therefore there is only one).

There was a candidate in 2016 that was very liberal and had good intentions, but many saw him as too liberal. Enough voted for him that it split the democratic votes between two candidates and Trump won, so yes unfortunately we do have to think about opposing the other side instead of just voting for who we like best as individuals. Did I mention the two party system sucks?

  • You can get Gboard on an iPhone… it isn’t the same but the autocorrect is less heavy-handed.

Speaking of which, if you ever try swipe typing on the default iOS keyboard, try swiping “purple woman”. Probably comes out fine. Then try “black woman” or any color that could be a skin tone and I bet it won’t come out right. Mine used to change the first word retroactively which was… bad. So for example “black woman” would become “blank woman”, “block woman”, “Bosch woman”, etc.

They seem to have fixed it somewhat but now it always capitalizes Woman for me and refuses to act normal. Just a fun tidbit.

  • That’s really cool! I wish I had more time to respond but it’s late. I wasn’t arguing that it’s a good way to fix things, it’s really a last ditch effort. There’s a reason regulations exist and should continue to exist (part of my many issues with the right-wing politics in the USA if not elsewhere… but that’s off topic).

That’s some really interesting insight into the issue at hand though, thank you!

    Lemmy is neat :)

  • I didn’t consider that they’d have to bring in the fish from elsewhere to feed them, that’s not sustainable at all.

Really we should be letting the free market do free market things and stop supplying as much fish, even if it does drive up prices. If you want the unsustainable fish, fine. Pay for it. Demand has to meet supply at some point.

  • I wish there was something solid like the zen phone 9 when I was looking to buy a new phone. I went with the iPhone 13 pro hoping it would last me at least 5 years, since Apple tends to be pretty good about their software longevity. I like android but I wasn’t about to switch to a Samsung because I just don’t like the weird “look we made our own app, now you have two browsers!”

  • Really? That’s kind of neat. I will say, iphones feel really nice to use, with the haptics and also general fluid animations. That is, assuming you do “basic phone things”, because as soon as you try and do complex things you need many more taps per action and sometimes the animated delay gets in the way.

  • Wow… I never thought of the Magic Mouse thing, yet you’re entirely correct. Everyone would use it like that, and honestly it does look better without being plugged in (although everything else about it sucks, I hate that damn mouse)

  • I live in the middle of nowhere and it’s been a lifesaver. The competition is good, because now satellite providers will need to up their game. It also keeps ISPs from locking down an area with insane prices and no alternatives rich is overall a great thing.
