Opinion | Voters punished Biden for problems he didn’t cause and effectively addressed
  • It's funny you mention the ACA, since what we have now came from Republicans absolutely gutting the original ACA proposal which should surprise absolutely no one since the GOP is bought and paid for by insurance companies.

  • I get what you're saying, but apathy at that scale isn't calling democrats a horse. It's taking a backseat on your future.

  • I spent hours trying to persuade US voters to choose Harris not Trump. I know why she lost | Oliver Hall
  • "I know why she lost"

She lost because 11 million people sat out this election. That's it, that's all there is.

The fact is that most of this country leans blue, and when voters turn out, blue typically wins. This is why the GOP is doing everything they can to make sure people don't vote.

Trump has a vote ceiling of around 74, maybe 75 million. In 2020, 81 million people voted for Biden.

    "Wait longer"

In other words, your first click was probably doing its thing. You just needed to wait a little longer to see it work.

  • Sweden, Norway rethink plans for cashless societies over fears that fully digital payment systems would leave them vulnerable to Russian security threats
  • In America, you can't open a bank account without an address. That means that the homeless population can't open a bank account (not easily, anyway), and therefore can't get a debit card.

Cashless is a nice idea, but it is extremely prohibitive against the most vulnerable people (which, sadly, might be part of the point).

  • Where does the music go?
  • If all discernable heat is unobservable and unobtainable, then semantics don't matter. Everything still dies. I'd include "heat" in that mix, but that's waxing philosophical

  • Where does the music go?
  • Until the day that even heat dies.

  • With this movie, Am I Racist?, and Reagan all playing at the same time, the GOP is really going full-throttle in attempting to exploit their base.

  • I'm pretty sure nobody loves cheap Chinese goods. It's more people love to be able to afford eating, having a roof over their head, and maybe some shitty, but cheap, headphones.

  • First of all, you make a great point.

Second of all, that quote made me laugh out loud. "In 15 words"? Why is that even there? I saw Sam sitting there with Word open, cursor blinking at the end of his sentence about how deep learning worked, wondering how to make it more impactful. So he copies the sentence and pastes it into a chatgpt box and asks, "how can I make this hit differently?" and chatgpt, in all it's gptness, responds: "try counting the number of words in the sentence and throwing that in front."

  • I made a programming.dev Firefox extension, but could use some help/feedback

Hey all, I made a Firefox extension (signed by Mozilla) specifically to add Show/Hide Child Comments functionality similar to how RES had it (where the parent comment is still visible).

It's not very useful, but I could use some feedback on tightening up the Javascript. I'm not a JS beginner, but I know I can do better, so any tips are welcome!

EDIT: Also, if anyone has any suggestions for the extension, I'm open to those as well.

Is there a way to set "All" as the default view instead of "Subscribed"?

Installed yesterday and immediately went ad-free. It's such a beautiful app.

Anyway, question is in the title.

Ahead of July 1, should we try to make a guide for redditors on how to use Lemmy?

I'm new myself but took the time to learn the platform. I'm not sure other people will have as much of an interest, so I'm just wondering if it would be a good idea for some of the old hat people to post some tips for people coming over from reddit.
