  • Additionally, I plan to launch an API on a secondary instance to avoid disrupting work on applications.

    Sounds great! I was literally just wondering about that.

  • @Damaskox I don't think that's possible, especially considering users can hide their subscriptions in their profile.

  • Yeah, it is pretty crazy. I've actually been playing Skyrim on my SD too. I had it on my switch, but have since started a new run on the SD.

  • No, kbin.cafe is not run by the same person that runs kbin.social; here's a post by the owner of kbin.cafe and @ernest is the owner of kbin.social and the main developer of kbin. As you mentioned, kbin works similar to an email service, so different kbins (and lemmys and mastodons) can communicate with each other.

  • You can (don't know if it'll work in gaming mode though), just use these instructions in the terminal.

  • I'm a mod of !startpages (https://kbin.social/m/startpages), which is all about the startpage/new tab page that resides in your browser. Right now It only has a few posts, so it'd be great to have some more users.

  • I use Cosmos Cloud because it makes managing my containers and hosting them a lot easier. It includes a reverse proxy (with anti ddos and anti bot), an OIDC server, a container manager (lets you import docker composes too), easy container deploy through app store, multiple users, and more. It's also supposed to come out with a few features that let you connect through a VPN (so your services are not directly exposed) and set up cgnat bypass / hide your ip.

  • I completely agree. It's not up to me (@NotSteve), but I would be fine with unprivating the old subreddit and making it read-only. I felt the same way when we first migrated, so I at least archived the top 20 or so posts (https://kbin.social/m/startpages/t/12385), but obviously that's not nearly anywhere close to the number of posts on the subreddit.

  • I've never actually tried to do this, so I don't know. The original support forum was from 4 years ago, so maybe it doesn't work for newer versions?

  • I know I'm late, but here's the original post:

    I was able to do this without an extension in Firefox. I followed the instructions here.

    These are the steps I took:

    1. Open the Firefox installation folder. For me, this was "C:Program FilesMozilla Firefox"
    2. Under this folder, open the "defaultspref" folder. If not present, make those two folders.
    3. Create a file called "autoconfig.js" inside the "defaultsprefs" folder, and put the following in it. This lets us run our own Javascript to configure the browser. The comment line at the top is required.
      //
      pref("general.config.filename", "autoconfig.cfg");
      pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0);
      pref("general.config.sandbox_enabled", false);
    4. Go back to the Firefox program folder ..\..
    5. Create a file named "autoconfig.cfg"
    6. Put the following in the file, replacing the value of newTabURL with the path to your startpage. This is 5 lines.
      // first line is a comment
      var {classes:Cc,interfaces:Ci,utils:Cu} = Components;
      var newTabURL = "file:///PATH_TO_YOUR_START_PAGE.html";
      aboutNewTabService = Cc["@mozilla.org/browser/aboutnewtab-service;1"].getService(Ci.nsIAboutNewTabService);
      aboutNewTabService.newTabURL = newTabURL;
    7. Profit.
  • Thanks. If I like QUBE 2 enough, I'll probably buy the DLC and 10th-anniversary edition as well.

  • I would like Q.U.B.E. 2 if available. I love the portal games and heard this was similar. Thanks!

  • Kbin doesn't have an api yet, so apps aren't supported (there are some in the works though for when the api goes public). In the meantime, you can install the pwa through a browser.

  • It's not the cheapest option on here, but Hetzner Cloud has some pretty good servers. I think their least expensive VPS is about $3.60 a month and comes with 4GB of ram and 40GB storage.

  • Does name cheap have free email aliases, like Google Domains? That's one of the main features I use.

    I also use the website forwarding (redirecting), but that's not as important for me.

    Edit: it looks like both are supported by name cheap, so that's probably what I'll migrate to.

  • Yes, spez is counting on us coming back after the 48 hours. We need communities to extend the blackout indefinitely to have any real effect.
