Your favorite font for terminal and GTK/QT apps?
  • I've recently fallen in love the Liberation fonts. For some reason I would always scroll past them in font lists and I don't know why. I guess I just saw Liberation Serif as a Times New Roman knockoff and dismissed them all because of that, when they're so much more.

I've applied them across the board (including websites) and wow.. I was straining my eyes for so long thinking my vision was going, when it turns out it was just bad hinting and kerning all along.

  • I tried Debian, I tried Fedora for my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro RTX3060: Framerate issues, stuttering in browsers, stuttering in simple 3D programs
  • Distros are a red herring. I used debian 12 (first gnome, then xfce) for more than a year with no problems, and the current version of Bazzite is also problem-free for me when it comes to nvidia prime (apart from a KDE-specific memory leak). Basically, this should be easily fixable without a fresh install.

I don't know what distro you're on atm, but set up prime-run and try running programs with that. I also recommend going onto the uefi and disabling secure boot. You can get it to work with proprietary nvidia drivers, but it's a bit of a process and unless you really need it you might as well leave it off for now.

  • Spring is here again
  • Good eye!

It's planted on an isolated patch of garden pretty far from wild woodland, and this lil moron has thankfully gone eight years without an expensive taste test. I appreciate the concern, though :)

  • Spring is here again
  • Thanks :)

I blame the couplet on Nirvana. Gets stuck in my head every spring.

  • cs2 4:3
  • Can't believe it's broken on X11 too lol

I guess it's in Valve's hands, then.. unluko

edit: does the problem persist if you change your desktop res to 4:3 before launching the game?

  • cs2 4:3
  • Are you using Wayland or X11? (find out by entering "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" into a terminal)

I suspect you're on Wayland, because that's what I'm using and I also can't click anything when using a non-native resolution. I used to be able to get around this by editing the executable but as you can see that's been broken since October. For all the good Valve have done for Linux gaming, they sure don't seem too bothered by their flagship being busted.

This is where I've just given up and switched to native res (as I want to keep using Wayland) but you might be able to make it work by switching to an X11 session. What distribution are you running?

  • A greeting - or a warning?
  • "I ordered some donuts"

"Put the tissue in the bin/trash"

    "Clean up a spill"

    "You bing your search"

What on earth is "to shamwow"? I had to Google™ (read: look up) what that meant!

  • Man, I sure do love to DoorDash™ some Dunkin'™!

Part of me hopes the original post was intentional marketing, because I'm still not ready to accept that people speak in brands now.

  • Yeah, the USSR most certainly is the odd one out here.

  • I appreciate the concern (getting squeezed like that is a major phobia of mine), but that door is flimsy and doesn't even close properly anyhow (which is how he got in in the first place), so he's safe :3

  • My boy got too large for the windowsill, but one couch move later and he's happy as a Larry
  • Thankfully I foiled his Generalplan Desk. He occupied the chair for a while, but I drove him out with a counteroffensive (threatening to sit on him).

  • My boy got too large for the windowsill, but one couch move later and he's happy as a Larry
  • That's a nice solution. In my case putting the couch by the window was a good upgrade, as I can lay there for ages looking up at the mountains, so my boy here actually boosted the Feng Shui of this particular room :D

  • You might know him as Lawrence. Notoriously happy fellow.

    Tap for spoiler

    But in all seriousness
