A couple months ago I ran into a guy collecting signatures for Cuomo by Atlantic center (a major transit hub in Brooklyn). I was just like "why?? Why are you doing this??" But sadly I was in a hurry and didn't have time to engage with him very long

I had a job that paid stupid well. I'd give some money to almost anyone who asked on the street. They need it. I have plenty. I'm not going to notice the $1 or $5 or even $20 that I gave away. I make more than that in interest every day.

Rarely, I'll talk with them a little. Ask their name or their story. There's a regular around me that seems delighted that I remember his name.

Sometimes someone will seem unsafe, but most people are alright. It helps that I'm a bearded man, so certain classes of danger and harassment are rarely pointed at me.

I got laid off in February. I still give to people who ask, but I carry less cash so sometimes I don't have anything to give.

When I'd be out with coworkers, before we all got laid off, none of them would give anything to people asking. I know they made as much or more than I did. I don't judge people for not giving cash out when they're in debt or struggling to pay rent, but I do judge my coworker for like wearing a high five figure watch and never helping the poor.

Is this not obvious to everyone?

Hiring someone on this kind of visa puts them under your boot. They can't ask for much or make waves without risking their whole life being upturned. If a citizen gets fired that sucks, but if you're on a work visa you might have to leave the country (breaking your lease, leaving your partner, etc). I think you get 60 days. Given how bad the job market is, that's not very long to find a new job. Also given how ICE is abducting people and sending them to a death camp, people are extra cautious.

It's similar to how coupling health insurance to employment gives the employer extra power against labor. Are you really going to make a big deal about your boss pressuring you to work unpaid overtime when getting fired means you lose access to your life saving medicine?

I see how people might think that.

This should be obvious to anyone paying any attention, but a lot of maga hats live in a world of lies, and a lot of people live in a world of shallow media. All those "did biden drop out?" searches right before the last election are haunting.

Cuomo is not a good candidate.

My parents, who thankfully can't vote in the NYC election, don't really like Zohran. One because she's terrified of "communism" (whatever that means to her). The other is skeptical, but I feel like could be convinced. I think that's a lot of older people.

I feel like at some point the camp will be liberated, and it's going to be like the nazi death camps all over again. People will say they had no idea. People will say we should never forget. There will be horrifying photos.

Except this time I don't know if the maga hats would even pretend to feel bad. But then again, I think a lot of original nazis went their whole life without really feeling bad.

Conservatives typically don't want to talk about blame because it is their fault.

I eat lunch mostly alone. Dinners maybe about half or 2/3rds with someone. But I'm well older than 18-24 :(

At my local bars, I tell them I'm (still) unemployed and then ask for the saddest, cheapest, beer. Usually it's High Life or a sad little green can I can't remember the name of. $4 or $5. One of them's a local enough bar that I know most of the bartenders now, at least.

The whole "return to office" thing is a cocktail of like.. "Feelings Driven Leadership" and "The Cruelty is the Point". Oh, and "I'm incompetent so everyone else must be incompetent in the same way, too."

Many managers make decisions based purely on feelings. You can show them data but they don't care. They feel like being in-office is better. And maybe, maybe, it is, on some metrics. Are those metrics better for workers? Probably not.

And the cruelty? Well, as others have said, some people get off on having power over others.

The last point, there are some people who just can't manage themselves so they seem to think no one else can, either. Like someone the other day was saying he can't work from home because he'll just play xbox. To which I respond, from the depths of my soul, fuck off. Grow up and stop making everyone else around you suffer because you're an incompetent, unmedicated, shit. You can go into the office if you have to. Don't make everyone else suffer a pay cut too because you're trash tier at self control.

Online meetings are largely useless

Funny how folks are different. I always enjoyed reading stuff and making up the ways it can mean stuff. Like, it's easy to read Dracula and think about feminism and women's place in the world. (a foreign entity shows up and now women are abandoning their motherly duties, wandering the streets at night? That won't do. Get some men to hold her down and penetrate her with this big wood. Hmm.)

I often find the opposite mode, the absolute refusal to think about the story beyond "some things that happened", tiresome. Like, "Ok I get that the story is about how they have to remove, possibly with violence, the competent women ruler and put the child boy on the throne because the rules say that only a man can rule, but why do you have to make this political? it's just a fun story."

I don't know how difference france is from the US, but I generally believe people are kind of ignorant and thoughtless. These will pull in people. People click on "Four things that are secretly unhealthy - #3 will SHOCK you" chum all the time.

Because people keep asking like LLMs are a magical solution to every problem. This is an effective way to show that that's false
