Does Consciousness Disappear in Dreamless Sleep?
  • See for me I'm not sure why that's hard to accept. I think I first heard it from Alan Watts, that there were billions of years of space before I was conscious, so why am I afraid of billions of years of nothing after I'm gone?

  • On the future of Lemmy vs reddit
  • It's not really just about reading, it's the engagement. I can read something from a couple of hours ago, comment now, and then somebody might read it in a couple of hours. And then comment back. But then I'm barely interested in the conversation because I've moved on.

But I'm just nitpicking. I know it's going to balance out. Or it won't and we'll move on to something else that does LOL. Or I can always spend more time outside. Gasp.

  • On the future of Lemmy vs reddit
  • But even if I'm on my instance, lemme.ee, and LW is down, I'm not going to see anything from that instance. Which is where the most activity is. So I might see the same link for an article locally, with two comments, and no interaction from the instance with 300 comments.

I mean, eventually other instances will grow, but then they will face the same problems as Lemmy.world.

  • Why do people dislike California?
  • I was homeless in SF and Marin County a while back in the early eighties. Spent many years in southern California. Now 20 years in Georgia. That was a lot of back story to say I was expecting crazy and annoying homeless people and feces everywhere when I went back on vacation three years ago. I couldn't find anything like that, to the point we took a few walks specifically to search it out.

  • Why do I have multiple banned users on my instance, when I never blocked anyone?
  • So that doesn't really explain what's going on with me. I have two accounts, with the same name. This one at lemme.world and another at lemm.ee, which are all the other comments in this thread by the same name. I can see this whole thread on this account, but from the other one I can only see my comments and the person that was replying to.

I don't know what's going on, except maybe lemme.ee is the federated from dot ml? I don't know why, and I don't know if it's just me doing something wrong or not. I've been trying to figure out a way to find out who's the federated and who's not within an instance. Because my two front pages look vastly different.

  • Is Lemmy THE reddit alternative for you? Are you thinking about moving somewhere else?
  • Personally I'm still not feeling it. My feed is just full of memes and rules posts. All the stuff I blocked in bacon reader. I can't find communities for any of the stuff I was interested in on Reddit.

I won't go back to reddit, but I do miss it.
