Armbian is a thing, and devices like the RK3588 are powerful enough for light desktop use. Performance is still far below that of what any Intel or AMD based system can provide.
I don't mind spending on good tools, but I won't buy a highly locked down device at any cost. An open source OS is a must, any new device will have to compete with my current phone that also has an SD card, headphone jack and is easy enough to open so that I can change the battery myself. Folding phones are inferior in all those aspects.
Understandable sentiment, I cant stand the crypto bros either. For me, it's not about lambos or whatever, I just wanna be able to buy stuff without paypal, mastercard and anybody else tracking my every step.
On the canvas we made it very clear from the beginning to not damage surrounding art and pushed for a creative use of the area (besides the coins, but come on, almost everybody has some flag or logo on the canvas)
Well you're kinda right, the "crypto" space as a whole is mostly driven by speculation and hype about price. We encourage neither, and focus on building private digital cash.
This is reflected in how our instance is run, zero user data is required for signup. To prevent bots we have a one time fee of about 1.5 USD. This also covers about half the expenses, the other half is provided by anonymous donations. The hosting is directly paid with Monero, making the instance and us a bit more independent from large corporations and especially payment providers.
Because you are here on lemmy, I figured you share some of those values, and that you might find use in private transactions. If you want become rich, you should look somewhere else.
Hard disagree. I don't like Volt either, and I'd never vote for them, but I must acknowledge that their political views align with the majority of liberal left users. If you'd like them to be gone, you are more then welcome to team up with friends to replace their pixels with better art. That's entire point of the canvas after all, to see what emerges when random groups and people share the same space.
On Android, you can use Shelter (available on F-Droid) to install a second, independent instance of Element to the work profile. That way you can stay logged in with two accounts and receive notifications for both.
If you enter a matrix user name on your profile, Lemmy adds an extra button on your profile to "Send Secure Message". Example: https://monero.town/u/shortwavesurfer
I don't know if this behavior is default, or if you have to configure something for it, but I think it's a nice way to bridge forum-like communities with chatrooms (matrix itself can be bridged with irc, discord, telegram).
Librewolf on desktop, Mull (and Fennec) on android. If some important site is broken, I have some chromium based backups without any modifications, which I wipe every now and then.
For Librewolf there are a few interesting privacy addons, most importantly Font Fingerprint Defender. It scrambles the list of installed fonts on the system, so if websites analyze those in order to track you, they will detect you as a new unique user every time you visit their sites.
Second if you do any open source work, consider putting up a donation address. Donating with Monero is easy, cheap and quick, which makes it a nobrainer. Depending on what you do, you might want a separate wallet for that (maximum anonymity), otherwise a sub-account or sub-address give sufficient private for most users.
Finally if you need larger amounts to spend, you need some exchange. The most popular P2P one is localmonero.co, trocador.app is great if you have other crypto already and kraken.com is the best KYC exchange.
Have fun, and feel free to ask any of us if you have any other questions.
Neo Launcher is great! Switched over from Nova Launcher because they had all the customization features I wanted, without the being tied to google play store. Also recommend the Neo Feed RSS reader, which integrates right on the home screen.
