  • We'll get you your stuff back. @ComradeEd@lemmygrad.ml is there any way for you to track who did this? We could at least narrow it down if XiBucks provides the timeframe it happened and you check the logs.

Higher speed rail service between Chicago and St. Louis begins
  • It's not really losing to the car. The article says the train will now also be less than five hours, so the time difference is honestly not that much. There are also four trips daily which is sadly quite good nowadays in America. You can leave from St. Louis at 4:30 AM, 6:35 AM, 2:55 PM, and 5:40 PM. You can leave Chicago at 7:15 AM, 9:50 AM, 5:20 PM, and 7:10 PM. Coach costs like $25-$31, while the car trip would cost you around $68. Instead of focusing on driving for 4.5 hours, you can relax or do work for five hours. Compared to less frequent routes (Pennsylvanian 😒) you also have several options for departure and don't need to arrive at the station before the sun even rises. Someone who knows more about planes can tell me a flight would make any sense.

As someone who goes between Philly and Pittsburgh a couple times a year, if the shitty Pennsylvanian service was upgraded to be like the new Lincoln Service, I'd be really happy!

Oh, and for price that ends up $7 million per mile. Not sure how that compares.

Should we focus the main town to be in one building style?
  • Well personally I want to make the smelter in a contemporary style but it'll be outside of the current "city core" if you will. I definitely think we should upgrade the cobblestone boxes. I do have one major concern, though. A lot of the buildings are primarily wood (including the roofs!) and close together. One bad thunderstorm, mis-clicked flint and steel, or griefer and the entire city will be up in flames.

  • Someone even pulled out the privacy concern troll copypasta lol

  • first version of the first lemmycraft 5 week plan
  • I'd be happy to work on a smelting array. I can design the building and include space for smoker, blast furnace, and regular furnace super smelters as well as areas for individual furnace use. I'd work on the design on my creative world and solicit feedback in this community throughout the week, and then I'll just have to get the materials and copy it over.

Putting it right next to the mine could make sense. Personally I think we should build it near the bamboo farm. The bamboo can be pumped directly into the furnaces as fuel without having to craft anything. There is also a lot of empty space there so we could build a giant horizontal bamboo farm afterwards (as opposed to the space-efficient but low throughput vertical farm we have). This will require honey or slime blocks for collection. Excess bamboo can be used as building material when we update to 1.20.

As for public transit... The streetcar is cute, but to be frank its utility is quite low. The loop design runs into issues whenever one cart ends up going the wrong way. To make matters worse, the speed of a minecart depends on whether or not its empty. Even if all carts are going in the same direction, it is inevitable for them to bump into each other. What we really need are automated stations that deploy and remove carts from the system when not being used (and maybe double track). However, these take up a bit of space which we don't have in the center city. Since the streets are quite narrow, we'll need a subway.

That said, the city is really compact right now and will be for a while so there's not much point in having a metro. And we also don't have that much infrastructure outside of city limits, so regional rail should be low priority as well.

  • 2023 Edelman report shows that China has the highest trust in government
  • Actually they're just really satisfied with the good job their government has done satisfying their needs.

  • Two questions and a small update
  • What's the /im command? Also, 1.20 would be nice but I'd be down waiting another week for more client mods to update for those that use them.

Regarding backups... maybe you could make 2 or 3 updates per day and just auto-delete old ones to save on space?

Other than that, the style, amenities, and interior design are pretty flexible and aren't as influenced by ideology and socioeconomic system as one might think. Just look at the history of Soviet architecture - several styles and apartment layouts. I think kommunalkas actually became less common as the economy developed instead of communal living becoming more common. Same thing in China I think.

Rainbow capitalism appears to be falling apart at the seams

Now even Starbucks is tossing aside the queer community. I will now paste reporting from the Starbucks Workers United Twitter. I don't recommend you actually go on that site, the replies are full of blue-check fascists.

    spoiler

BREAKING: In the middle of Pride Month, Starbucks BANS Pride decorations in stores across the United States. For the last two weeks, Starbucks workers have taken to social media to report that the company is no longer allowing Pride decorations in-store. This seems to be the first year the publicly “pro-LGBTQ+” company has taken this kind of stance. Taking a cue from Target, who bowed to anti-LGBTQ+ pressure and removed pride merchandise, corporate and district management are taking down the pride decorations that have become an annual tradition in stores. In union stores, where Starbucks claims they are unable to make “unilateral changes” without bargaining, the company took down Pride decorations and flags anyway - ignoring their own anti-union talking point.

Starbucks is powered by many queer workers, but management has failed to materially support the LGBTQ+ community. Last October, some workers have reported that their transgender benefit plan changed, causing them to pay out of pocket fees and lose access to certain providers. If Starbucks was a true ally, they would stand up for us, especially during a time when LGBTQ+ people are under attack. A company that cares wouldn’t turn their back on the LGBTQ+ community to protect their already astronomically high profits. True allyship with the LGBTQ+ community is negotiating a union contract that legally locks-in our benefits, our freedom of expression, and ways to hold management accountable.

Starbucks Corporate is denying any change to their policies on Pride this year - but if that were true, why are there countless stories where workers are claiming the opposite? Starbucks partners have been making TikToks about the situation in stores - some going as far back as weeks ago. The company can't ignore what is obviously a huge shift for this year's Pride in stores.

A dozen Native Hawaiʻian navigators will set sail this month from Juneau, Alaska, on The Moananuiākea Voyage, a four-year trip around the Pacific Ocean by canoe.

‘The Oceans Have Always Connected Us’

They'll be stopping at dozens of locations and will have a rotating crew. The journey will be made by both a double-hulled canoe and another canoe with an engine. The entire route will be 43,000 nautical miles. Very cool!
