  • When I bought my house I replaced all 3 toilets and added bidets to them. Life changing, I can't believe I went without them for so many years.

  • You are correct in how it works. It's incredibly frustrating. On Reddit I was +80k, and I don't care about the actual number, I care that it showed I contributed to conversations to the best of my ability. I should be at plus several hundred right now but I'm in the negative. It's not a huge deal but I'd prefer not to be mistaken for a troll.

  • Fuck the recommended subs bullshit. I was a frequent poster and reader of r/personalfinance so reddit kept recommending r/povertyfinance. One look through that led me to block the sub, but it kept popping up anyways. Same with subs for specific cities even though I don't live anywhere near them.

  • What an absolute bag of hammers this guy is.

  • I'm reading Essex Dogs by Dan Jones. It's a historical fiction novel about a group of mercenaries who join England's invasion of France in the 1300s. It's violent, vulgar and does an excellent job highlighting the mundane parts of war: endless marching, heat, shitty food, illness, dirt/grime/stink, insects biting you endlessly. I've stayed up until 2 AM on work nights 3 times this week because I can't put it down. I was expecting to like it, and only intended for it to be a palate cleanser between Stormlight Archives books 3-4, but I absolutely love it.

  • So far the userbase for kbin has been widely respectful and friendly. If that changes via trolls making multiple accounts to stir shit up, I'd advocate for restricted signup processes. Right now, probably not necessary, but I can certainly see a future where it is.

  • I'm going to be all over this one with my friends tomorrow night. We love battlefield but all dropped off once battlefield 4 started dying.

  • Public transport is barely an option where I live. Can't take it to work because work is 30 miles away in a far-flung suburb. I live in the city and public transpo is either total shit or unsafe. I can drive to where I need to go in 3-5 minutes. Taking a bus would take 30-60 minutes, and that's if it even shows up on time.

  • Honestly I just miss being able to hang up calls by slamming the thing closed, that's it. I won't buy a modern one but that was always satisfying.

  • A little bit once federation got turned on in kbin, but it was pretty easy to just block those users and move on.

  • The show is my favorite show of all time and I still think the books are better. If you liked the show, at all, you'll really like the books. Amos Burton is probably my favorite character in any fictional universe.

  • At least we have the option to turn off federation. I haven't done so yet, but I have noticed a dive in post quality since federation was turned back on. Everything on kbin itself that I've seen has been cordial and civil, but there have been a number of comments from lemmy users I've seen in just the last day that led me to block some channels of theirs, and a bit more shitposting than I'd like in my feed.

  • This has been brought up a few times and I don't think it's an option yet but I agree that it needs to be. For now I'm just blocking the magazines as they come up. I will continue to browse all/active until I've built a solid collection of magazines and then I'll switch to subscribed view.

  • Demolition Man. My dad has a hunting property in the middle of nowhere, Missouri. My brother and I would get dragged along as kids, but we typically stayed in the house. There was a VHS player and a TV there, and only 3 VHS tapes: Demolition Man, Falling Down, and some shitty porno my uncle didn't hide very well. I've probably seen Demolition Man 20+ times in my life. I was at a bar in St. Louis, where I live, last week, (Playtpus is the bar, their head bartender was on Drink Masters!) and they had Demolition Man on TV. To my wife's great annoyance, I insisted we stay a bit longer than we would have because I wanted to watch parts of it.

  • Yeah this is definitely needed. I am browsing all/active just so I can gather up some magazines I'm interested in but I'm hit with a ton of non-English mags/channels. I'm blocking them as I see them but there are a ton. It's all part of the growing pains for sure so I'm not going to be impatient about it or anything, but this is a needed feature.

  • Ah so it's all or nothing in terms of seeing federated content? That's good to know. Like I said I don't plan on turning it off, I just didn't know how it works technically. I'm still deworming my brain from a decade of Reddit lol. Thanks.

  • Interesting, I started playing Boltgun and that ignited an interest into 40k. Think I can read that with next to no knowledge of the lore?

  • Insurgency Sandstorm is my go to. 8 player co-op vs ai bots, but with a degree of realism. A well placed headshot will drop an enemy instantly but the same can happen to you.

  • Chained Echoes. 16 bit RPG with great art and gameplay, but it's not hard on the battery and it has modern day QOL features.
