do you also spend a lot less time on Lemmy compared to Reddit?
  • I spend a lot more time on it since I am an instance admin. (not on this account or instance though)

  • RFK Jr. denies comments on ‘ethnically targeted’ Covid-19 were anti-Semitic
  • Everything I’ve learned about this man has been against my will

  • Forge has been forked
  • I tried being nosy and went to the discord server. From what I can gather within the official discord, it seems likely a similar situation to former Minecraft mod loaders drama. Weird, intercommunity drama and general disagreements about the future of the project resulting in a massive split. It seems that there was discussion of potentially improving upon the code of forge and having it run smoother and maybe incorporating an existing project (sodium it seems?) and if such suggestion was actually incorporated that would have potentially disrupted the forge main download site's ability to generate ad revenue, and such suggestion apparently morphed into tension that had been seemingly brewing for months. Apparently, the guy they parted ways with was given the forge project and basically owns the rights to the name, website, ad revenue on the website, and is in control of community donations. All of it seems like a hot mess regardless, but we will see what the truth is in time I presume.

Take what I'm saying with a grain of salt though, I could be completely wrong.

  • Please take care of yourself. We seriously appreciate you and everything you've done, same goes for all other staff. This past week has immensely stressful across the lemmyverse and no one blames you at all for needing to tap out from all this. A lot of people are expecting lemmy and lemmy instances to be like reddit 2.0, but that's just not humanly possible. It also feels like lemmy as a software has had it personally out for beehaw... kind of like a murphy's law situation.

  • Hermetic Kabbalah - Introduction
  • Not gonna lie, this makes me deeply uncomfortable. Kabbalah is just a word for Jewish mysticism. It is closed practice and non-Jews aren't supposed to delve deep into it, not because Jews have this weird sinister desire to hide this hidden knowledge but because it has gotten us murdered in the past. The word cabal is specifically in reference to Kabbalah. Alongside that, most resources on Kabbalah you find online is deeply inaccurate or completely misinterpreted outside of the specific Jewish context. Within the religious context of Judaism though, there is a commonly held opinion that non-Jews who attempt to study Kabbalah will be driven to madness by it.

  • Meta's Threads twitter competitor is now live... what do you think?
  • I installed it, looked around, and deleted it.

  • Another reason to leave Reddit: I forgot how hostile it can be
  • It depends on the instance in my experience. Beehaw is a good one though, I feel.

  • Supreme Court protects web designer who won’t do gay wedding websites
  • Like I said, it will backfire. When people get refused service for MAGA hats or because of being Christian they will throw a fit but they dug the hole for themselves here.

It’s awful and I agree though. It’s disgusting and the cruelty is the point. But the way this is going to be use against them is going to make things so messy and petty.

  • Student Loan Forgiveness: Supreme Court Rejects Biden’s Debt Forgiveness Plan
  • This was to be expected like most other decisions that came out today but still disappointing nonetheless. Only serves to show just how much public confidence for the US surprise court as a viable institution has gone out the window due to how little surprise there is.

Apologies if this is the wrong community for this! Feel free to delete if it is.

Also, this is a big blow to lgbt anti discrimination but it also is a blow to a lot of others as well The way this decision is going to backfire and the fact it will be able to applied against not just lgbt people has not been thought through, at all.

Colleen Ballinger's apology just dropped, and the worst influencer apology ever has been finally achieved I think
    yewtu.be hi.

I do not condone or support any kind of online bullying or hate towards anyone. ever.

This is unreal. She's been accused of years of grooming minors for those unaware. The allegations she's facing as well as those around her is intense, with potential legal consequences in the making. Major content warning to those who seek out articles on the matter, of course. She's had a pretty successful Netflix show, and I believe a Broadway show as well? She's a pretty early OG youtuber.

So... she decided to whip out a ukelele and start playing a song for an apology after days of increasingly being under fire. I never thought that a worse Influencer apology would ever be made, but she did it.

Apologies if this isn't a good community to post by the way, I just haven't seen any discussion of this on here yet and I just need to bask in just how baffling it is.

OpenAI-powered app from Microsoft is coming to Epic Systems to help save doctors time
  • I'm sorry did I read this shit right? It's coming to what? And doing what? This is the worst possible application. This is going to end up killing someone, especially with the bias that is already extremely prevalent in medicine. I hope Microsoft and Nuance are prepared for the potential of roping themselves into a landmark AI biomedical ethics court case.

  • Yep. And (obviously) America is going to one day be forced to come to that same understanding that Germany was painfully forced to. I'm just hopeful it doesn't take a genocide or some sort of dictatorship for a similar reckoning to occur. Germany might not be perfect, but there are many things American society could learn from that exist within modern day German culture especially in regards to cultural reconciliation with historical wrongs. It's hard to really describe how happy it makes me feel that as a Jewish person I can say I would feel very safe and welcome living in and visiting most places in Germany, but it also makes me sad to an immense degree that I can truthfully say I'd probably feel safer most places there than in the most places in the states right now... :(

  • Ah I meant lemmynsfw, I thought you were saying that beehaw blocked it which it doesnt show as blocked for me. Is there any reasoning why sopuli blocked lemmynsfw? I never saw any announcement that they did about that and am curious as to why.

  • exploding-heads are infiltrating our discussions
  • They don't? I thought they did? I don't see it in their banned instance list.

www.nprillinois.org Cormac McCarthy, American novelist of the stark and dark, dies at 89

The author of The Road, Blood Meridian and No Country For Old Men embodied a strong Southwestern sensibility, writing often about men grappling with the existence of evil.
