AI Actress Tilly Norwood Draws Backlash From Melissa Barrera, Lukas Gage and More Hollywood Names as Creator Defends Her as a ‘New Tool’ and ‘Not a Replacement for a Human Being’

  • Milei is the guy who gave Elon Musk his novelty chainsaw. Fascism isn't an ideology in the traditional sense, and when a fascist-adjacent government actually becomes fascist is an exercise in individual discernment. Perhaps fascism is best described as a spectrum, and in that framing, Milei is pretty fascist. WSWS isn't wrong -- calling someone with significant fascist qualities who seeks out fascist allies a 'fascist' seems like a reasonable use of language.

  • The study only covered Lettuce farms. Using Jute fiber plugs requires more land use than traditional farming, replacing them with coconut coir would use less land than traditional farming.

  • Rest in Power David Graeber

  • The ETA's assassination of Blanco is an interesting case: ETA is a basque autonomy movement, similar in character to the IRA in Ireland, but while England has mollified its large Welsh and Scottish populations, Spain has several sub-national identities still fighting today for autonomy. For a country called Spain, you might be surprised to learn that most of their native population's first language isn't Spanish.

While the end of the fascist regime improved the quality of life of Basque people, it didn't get the ETA closer to its goal of Basque autonomy. Instead it cemented the ETA's image as violent terrorists, and the liberal government that followed was more effective at isolating the ETA from the Basque population. There are still a significant number of openly fascist politicians in Spain, and they are happy to use the state to exact revenge for their martyr.

If the goal of the ETA was only to reduce fascists from a single party rule to one in a plurality of political parties, one could say their strategy of assassination was successful. Their actual goal was Basque autonomy, and assassination lightened the yoke on the rest of Spain while making the cause of Basque nationalism a political pariah. Fascism is still alive and an active threat both politically and on the streets of Spain.

Blanco's death was a net positive for Spain, but then so was the death of Park Chung Hee for Korea. Even better for all of Korea's antifascist and liberal groups, the assassin was from Chung Hee's own party and head of his CIA. Whether spontaneous or part of a poorly-planned coup, it was spurred by popular uprisings across Korea, which included several dozen police stations being burned to the ground.

Mobilizing to counter pogrom marches, fighting racist skinhead gangs, standing guard outside threatened trans and LGBT events are all forms of community self-defense that somehow often get grouped into the category of political violence. The results of these kinds of direct actions are much more predictably positive than political assassination. More importantly, the grassroots network building that makes these kinds of actions successful allows for a much more nuanced and diverse set of responses to political repression, and are prefigurative of the kind of society people actually want to live in.

  • ARG has a mastodon account. Mastodon is easily convertible into an RSS feed, but that doesn't give you what you want as an audio-only version. Lemmy and Mastodon share activitypub messages, so you can ask ARG yourself if you ping their feed.

  • Transcript is available via YouTube if you click on the "more..." button in the video text box and then click on the "Show Transcript" button.

  • I encountered your video a month after you posted it on Kolektiva.media, and this is the first community that I thought to boost it. I'm really pleased to find you've already posted it here. My reaction to the title was that it was so intuitively true that it was strange I hadn't encountered anyone writing about or discussing it before. Your own unique experience with the subject and the nuance of your analysis is worthy of sharing and I hope you continue to share and find a larger audience.

  • Tucker Carlson is one of the more competent fascists. His program record demonstrates he's never cared about free speech. Now that the Overton window has shifted so far right and the bar has been set so low, people will vote for a man like Tucker and feel like they're doing harm reduction / restoring democracy.

Read The Shock Doctrine. Unless there is a major correction, Tucker will continue Trumps' mission -- and people traumatized by Donald's chaos will embrace him.

  • There's a lot of good reasons to be exasperated, and you have a limited pool of emotional energy.

I have an account on a Solarpunk server. Most images are found on servers that don't support off-site linking, or aren't under the control of trusted people in the Fediverse. If I upload an image to post on any community, that post is native to my server because that's where my account is. So although the post is shared with all the servers that federate with the LM community, the image is hosted on my server. This is the way the Fediverse normally works. I've never before seen people become exasperated about federated accounts posting to a federated community on federated social media.

It is confusing to me why so many people are angry about a 'missing article' when it isn't much work to search for an article to discuss and post it in the comments. Several people have posted article links as comments, which have so far resulted in zero article discussion. I think whatever people are angry or exasperated about, it doesn't have anything to do with me; I'm just a convenient target: I shared a picture, and the picture title sounded like it belonged to an article.

I post a lot of articles, pictures, and memes, and I do it because if I don't, they don't get posted. Despite doing this without getting paid, I occasionally get feedback that assumes a much higher standard of professionalism than 'free.' When you attack people for participating in ways that don't meet your unrealistic standards, you not only make the people you attack lives less pleasant, but you also discourage other people from participating. In a participatory platform, your behavior is a form of cancer.

Just because I post articles doesn't make me different from you - we are both creator-consumers here. I would like very much to have a more diverse group of people sharing stories, memes, and pictures. I notice you've been here a year, and haven't made any posts yet. Consider giving it a try. You do open yourself up to more negative feedback, but you'll understand better what realistic expectations for people who post here actually look like. It will be easier for you to understand the motivations and actions of others here.

  • I appreciate you calling it like you see it here. It is just one news story.

Still, how we treat each other here is an important part what makes a social media platform a healthy place to spend our time.

  • I’m guessing molten and Five are the same person with a few supporting accounts.

@molten@lemmy.world LOL This is what I deal with on the regular. A raging conspiracy-obsessed hive mind with its critical thinking lobe lobotomized.

    Find a better server, Lemmy.world has a lowest-common-denominator culture.

  • Why not link to the article instead of raging in the comments about it? Sometimes people want to talk about articles, sometimes they want to talk about pictures. Sometimes people want to derail any relevant conversation to complain about nothing -- but I hope this is not one of those threads.

  • The rate of people living on the streets is not a constant across even all capitalist societies, 'homeless' describes a state without implying a cause. 'Unhoused' properly implies that people could have shelter, but the society they live in has failed to make houses available to them.

  • You could feed your whole family with that much soup!

  • Don't downplay it -- it's a whole $4! That's a bowl of soup for all of your privacy. Until they appeal it, that is.
