Should we clone reddit posts?
  • One of Reddit's main pressure points for forcing reopening was that it was "unfair for the users" to keep data hidden and inaccessible. Mirroring all that data takes away some of the leverage. So I can understand the value... we can move and we don't have to worry about Reddit taking its ball and going home or claiming it deserves to be hostile because it is the steward of so much information.

  • Jellyfin has closed their Reddit community permanently and moved to a new forum
  • This is what needs to happen. All these groups that relied on Reddit as a "transparent" and safe method to host forums need to move out. All that's happening here is that Reddit feels like they own all this data and information and thinks they can charge for it.

Happy to see Jellyfin making the move that is beyond "going to the next Reddit" and actually taking ownership of their data and community to safeguard it.

Is this a known issue? I don't seem to have issues subscribing to other communities outside my instance.

I keep seeing that we should submit content for Lemmy to thrive... so here is my first contribution.

Reddit experimenting with blocking mobile browsers
  • This actually just helped me make the connection. Whenever I was consciously trying to close the app because I had something else to do I would always make sure to say "one more" then not scroll even a little past otherwise I'd want to keep scrolling to see what was hidden.

If I'm in this situation again I'll make sure to turn paging on. I am not sure mlem (lemmy app) supports this, though.
