  • you. you get me.

  • [David Wong has entered the chat]

  • and you've never had to wait in line a few extra times every DMV trip because they keep putting your name on the paperwork wrong even though you spell it out loud every time.

  • It was a fucking banger and a true classic of this millennium's tween years you tasteless, joyless, spork sharpener.

addendum: the lil "discourse" below this comment is ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฅค

  • oh, no. The women I'm remembering were straight up abusive. One of them was too high to properly bond with the older male child when he was born so she really only wanted the younger girl but she refused to give up custody of him because she could get money out of the grandmother in exchange for being allowed to see him. Kid was like ten showing up to my friend's mom's house with handprint bruises talking about beating hookers and they couldn't get CPS to remove the kid. Fucking sad. I don't talk to that friend anymore for unrelated reasons but last I heard her sister had at least gotten back with the kid's dad and was at least treating my friend's nephew better in front of his biodad.

also idgaf if it is a stress response. It really damages the kids to not have consistent caregivers and to be constantly told that people who were positive influences in their life were actually bad. It's gonna fuck up their ability to set healthy boundaries for the rest of their life. If they can't "ask for help" without fucking a kid up for life then they are an unfit parent. Those women were just uniquely awful people whose kids might have had a better life if mom taking the kids in the break up wasn't the societal default.

  • one of my mother's more unhinged rant topics was women intentionally keeping children away from their fathers as revenge for him breaking up with her and that if they don't have the maturity to get married and stay married then they shouldn't have children etc etc. She also talked mad shit about people who take government assistance to care for their children when my disabled sister has always been on as many benefits as my mother could get approved (she had good reasons though, unlike those lazy "other" people... ๐Ÿค”)

ime I have seen mothers use their child coercively but it's not usually by keeping them from the father, at least not successfully. It turns out family court actually favors fathers if they bother to pursue custody, which few do without a strong reason, either good or bad. It's usually been women using the children to coerce family, friends, or a new partner into staying by getting them to bond with the child then being able to actually remove the child from them since they have no legal rights to the child. And I think the only reason I haven't seen fathers do it more is because, as stated previously, many don't pursue custody due to either internal or external expectations that childcare is the mother's job.

  • Ubuntu was really good when I was a kid. when I went to school like 10 years ago I had to have a windows computer for a while to run my school's proprietary virtual clinical lab software and I was too busy studying and going to irl clinicals to worry about getting a dual boot running. I tried to go back once a few semesters in but it seemed really bloated compared to the Ubuntu I grew up with and I did mint for a bit but that computer kicked the bucket iirc and I didn't have the time to set up another dual boot. Hubs is thinking we're gonna have to switch soon and I've honestly been ready for a bit and think I'll probably try mint again, but distrowatch says a lot of people are super into cachy so I was considering that. Will Probably still try mint first.

  • @SorryImLate@piefed.social yeah sorry I didn't mean to actually start a thread I just couldn't find the daily thread and had to vent my frustration.

  • Feeding the geese at the pond just outside the school cafeteria was one of the few offenses I actually agreed with being as seriously punishable as it was. Those things would occasionally injure students when they thought they were gonna get more food out of it.

  • 5pm. But you know what? I go to bed way earlier than all those fuckers.

  • The fucking nursing assistants at work were showing each other pics instead of listening to shift report. Watching the public reaction to this event has been wild. I like the Gianmarco Soresi bit: "a lot of my conservative friends are starting to like the idea of free healthcare, and a lot of my liberal friends just got reeeal OK with guns!" It was also wild watching the press try to make him a bad guy then suddenly turn and try to bury any news when that didn't go how they hoped. Very uniquely unifying event.

  • That's not what freeze drying is.

  • idk but I love freeze dried marshmallows and can never find them anywhere.

  • Imma come out and say it: they're old timey versions of copper coils or orgonite pyramids. Gnosticism got kinda big for a while and people were buying curses and prayers and stuff from people to write on little bits of broken pottery like little curses you'd write on scraps of paper in middle school. Somebody out there figured out how to weld little metal sacred geometry figurines and people were buying them because they look cool and some of them probably thought they'd resonate with the vibrations of the universe to cure dysentery or whatever.

  • I would just make bronze silver and gold badges and link them to a percentile of scores for the server (to calculate wider than for just the server you could maybe calculate each user's upvote / downvote ratio first, then do percentiles based on that). So bronze might indicate a top 50th percentile, silver 75th percentile, and gold 90th. Then publish that info in the sidebar and possibly with other statistics such as what the minimum score for each percentile currently is for the server. You could also use a โš ๏ธfor negative scores / malicious users and a โšช or โž– or just not show an icon for users that like you said just don't get a lot of upvotes.

    Example:

    IconPercentile RangeExample Server Score Threshold
    ๐Ÿฅ‡Top 90thโ€“100thโ‰ฅ 1500 points
    ๐ŸฅˆTop 75thโ€“89thโ‰ฅ 900 points
    ๐Ÿฅ‰Top 50thโ€“74thโ‰ฅ 500 points
    โšช0โ€“49th (Low Activity / Neutral)< 500 points
    โš ๏ธNegative Behavior / Reports< -1 points
  • Should clarify that I don't just want to follow users, I also want to be able to utilize my profile as a microblog and be able to make 500 character or whatever mini posts straight to a tab under my profile. Like in addition to posts and comments I want microblog and replies to be tabs on my profile and included in my overview tab.

  • yeah but the combo in one account is an attractive idea. ty for answering though!

  • does piefed have a microblogging function? I recently swapped to kbin because I liked the idea of a dual reddit + tumblr style experience but I'm also hearing good things about piefed
