  • Just gonna point this out, GTA is one of the most accessible games for kids learning to play a game. Shooters are very difficult to grasp aiming with one thumb, moving with another, and shooting. Games where you have to follow instructions or solve puzzles are impossible till a kid gets the hang of games.

GTA? X button gets in and out of any car you want. Driving couldn’t be easier and is so much fun. Get out of the car and run around till you get bored, then just hop in another car.

And when you die? No reading, or lengthy instructions you need to follow. No, just spawn outside a hospital right next to another car.

I always felt like somebody needed to create a GTA clone just for kids. Everything about it should stay the exact same, just cartoonify the violence and get rid of the sex and drugs and stuff.

  • It always annoyed me when a post reached the front page and they limited who was allowed to comment on it. I usually didn’t even know what sub I was in until after I typed my comment and clicked submit. Followed by auto mod deleting my post.

I forgot how much I hated that about Reddit. Good riddance.

  • The point is that the people who were attacking Biden for his Israel policies were just Trump supporters (and literal bots) that were masquerading as passionate Israel supporter. They didn’t give a shit about who would be best for Palestine, they just wanted to get Trump elected.

We know this now by the silence from those people now. End game was achieved when Trump got elected.

  • I’m definitely not saying the algorithm should be a hidden secret, or lie about the up/down vote count. It is all open source of course!

Reddit had this sweet spot where it could push some trending posts to the top of the page within 30 minutes, but also let a story sit for a few hours while it was getting lots of engagement. But generally there is a new front page every few hours or so.

The only way I can get this is by alternating between hot and top 12 hours. But even this is nowhere near as good as the Reddit algorithm.

  • Sure, kinda like saying, if it looks like shit and it smells like shit, it’s probably shit. Apt metaphor.

I guess I’m just wondering about the intent. Like, is it possible to prove that an algorithm was designed to have a bias vs the bias is a natural result of what people spend their time watching. I am sure it’s the former, but how does one prove that without leaks from the inside.

  • Using a controlled experiment involving hundreds of simulated user accounts, the study found that Republican-leaning accounts received significantly more ideologically aligned content than Democratic-leaning accounts, while Democratic-leaning accounts were more frequently exposed to opposing viewpoints.

Does this mean the algorithm was designed to push a republican agenda? Or does the algorithm know that liberals are more likely to watch videos from the opposing side than conservatives?

I don’t doubt that billion dollar social media companies wanted Trump to win and put their fingers on the scale in whatever way they could. But I wonder how you can prove the algorithm is pushing an ideology at the expense of its users as opposed to the algorithm is just pushing the ideology that gets the most views from its users.

  • Like, at all? You don’t think babies born during summer months have a different enough experience than babies born in winter months that their personalities could be affected. Even a tiny bit? That’s all I’m saying.
