Huh.. I cross post stuff regularly just to try and help spread where people can see stuff given how small the fediverse is, I hadn't considered someone might find it annoying if I regularly cross-posted their submissions

I mean the no kings protests were absolutely massive, but if you didn't happen to go out that day you may not have seen them

There's a mastodon artist I follow who hand paints queer erotica in guache- she's been loosing her mind trying to find any way to monetize her work for a while now

I think the payment processors were happy to have an excuse to deny handling these transactions. She's been having trouble since long before this current situation, and making it impossible for her to financially provide for herself sure as fuck isn't good for anyone except puritanical queerphobic shitheads :(

Thats an interesting idea. That contrasts against how I'd kind of thought of it as being similar to the internal toxicity and infighting of the political left

Some of the toxic patterns kind of remind me of purity testing and the same attacking people for being "one of the bad guys" when there isn't truly good reasons tho think they are

Unfortunately I really don't think they are. Maybe it's a small part of it, but it feels like there are a lot of similar social issues that follow the same pattern

I feel like it's tempting to just tell ourselves it's an outside evil, but I don't think that helps us do anything about the problem

For a space fundamentally built on collaboration and a more pro social approach to building things together, it's very frustrating how common anti-social, antagonistic behavior is in open source, free license spaces.

To me it feels like a real and significant hinderance to FOSS, and I really hope we can collectively develop more awareness about this issue so we can hopefully address it :/
