Are Sodastreams "frowned upon"?
  • I didn’t know that, that’s good at least.

  • Are Sodastreams "frowned upon"?
  • They’re an Israeli company

  • How can I improve my handwriting?
  • What worked for me is learning some better letterforms from some free images from the Write Now book (by Getty-Dubay) on italic cursive. It’s a different kind of cursive from the awkward one I was taught in school, and it’s a lot easier to write and read.

I think the biggest improvement in my handwriting was just finding letterforms in that book that are both easy to write but that are also more clearly distinguishable when you write quickly. For example, just putting a little curl at the bottom of my lowercase T’s, I’s, and L’s made them a lot more aesthetically pleasing but also more clearly distinct from other letters.

Once you find some letterforms like that, it just takes a little practice to rewrite your muscle memory.

  • Feeling lost and with no direction, what skill should I learn?
  • Homebrew is so fun, and I love how you can make it as complex as you want. Like, you can just mix some honey and some water (in the right ratio) and let it sit, and you’ve got mead! Or you can add flavors. Or experiment with yeasts. Or brew beer and experiment with hops and grains. It’s a hobby that really meets you where you want it to.

  • Feeling lost and with no direction, what skill should I learn?
  • I recently got into video game development, and I’ve had so much fun, and it’s given me some much-needed meaning. I’ve solved problems unique to my game using programming skills as well as game design skills, and it feels meaningful because i can send it to my friends and they can enjoy it without needing to appreciate any of the technical aspects. I get to be creative about how people I care about can have more fun. It could also involve your music composition hobby, since every good game needs some music and sound design! I’m a programmer for my day job so most things I do there are only meaningful to other programmers, and the problems I solve there are incredibly boring ones.

Edit: I saw your comment about being burnt out on programming, and I totally understand that. That happens to me frequently. I enjoy programming as a hobby when I’m not burnt out so we’re kinda in different boats there. There are lots of skills involved in making games and the variety has really refreshed me, though I’ve still gotten sick of sitting at a computer while working on it.

  • Which communication protocol or open standard in software do you wish was more common or used more?
  • There are a bunch of message broker services out there, and having a consistent set of common keys along with a documented process for transforming events to/from different systems means that this kind of data can move through different systems without getting mangled. It does have a spec for JSON, so it can be considered just a standardized JSON blob with transformation rules. But it also has a protobuf spec, specs for MQTT, NATS, HTTP, Avro, etc. It’s a common language for all these systems.

  • Which communication protocol or open standard in software do you wish was more common or used more?
  • I’m really into CloudEvents because I love event-driven systems, and since events can come from, or be consumed by, so many different services, having a robust spec is super duper useful.

Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete • Gushing over Magical Girls - Episode 13 discussion - FINAL
  • I loved it, it was a fantastic finale. Different from the manga, but I think it worked so well in anime form.

  • What's your favorite way of playing multiplayer?

I started a server with some friends and I pretty quickly realized I’d prefer to have my own spaghetti than work on someone else’s, so I ran off. Do you prefer working closely with people or do you have more fun making factories in far-off lands?

It almost sounds like I’m defeating the purpose of multiplayer, but there’s a whole map we can build on! And I’m sure my friends appreciate when I send them truckloads of plastic and rubber from the coast while they were working on space elevator stuff in the fields.

Bartending anime with really cozy vibes and forays into japanese distilling and bartending history

I recently heard the announcement of a remake for this anime, which made me go watch the original. The art isn't phenomenal, but it has such comfortable, cozy vibes.. Here's the description from AniList:

    > Genius bartender, Sasakura Ryuu makes the most incredible cocktails anyone has ever tasted. Seeking his "Glass of God", individuals from all different walks of life visit his bar. With both a compassionate ear and a godly drink, Ryuu helps people with their problems.

    Favorite punch?

I’ve been reading David Wondrich’s Punch and I’m in love with the whole idea of punches. Getting a bunch of people together around a big bowl of something tasty and drinking the night away sounds so fun. It also sounds nice to be able to prepare a great drink for everyone without having to spend too much of my time away from my guests shaking up individual drinks.

I’ve mixed up a few batches of Philadelphia Fish House Punch and it’s now one of my favorite drinks. Does anyone here have a favorite punch recipe?

P.S. If you haven’t read Punch or Imbibe!, I wholeheartedly recommend them. David Wondrich is a really fun writer and cocktail history is a really interesting subject (to me, at least).

    Elixir for Fediverse applications?

Does anyone else think that Elixir could be really well-suited to writing fediverse applications? I'm really tempted to try my hand at writing an alternative Lemmy backend. If anyone is feeling the same way, I'd be more than happy to host a project on my GitHub and give y'all access and we can see what we can do.

    Update 8 Fixes v0.8.0.2
    store.steampowered.com Satisfactory - Update 8 Fixes v0.8.0.2 - Steam News

Hello everyone, today here’s a smaller patch that hopefully has some big impact for a lot of you.

    Satisfactory - Update 8 Fixes v0.8.0.2 - Steam News

    Hi Pioneers!

Hello everyone, today here’s a smaller patch that hopefully has some big impact for a lot of you, We did some optimisation improvements that we want to try out, a fix for being unable to place water extractors on the water that was fixed, and some localisation updates.

If we’re forgetting about something important or if we’ve introduced new issues, please let us know over at our QA Site: https://questions.satisfactorygame.com/ We will look into it ASAP

As always, with every new update if you’re experiencing some major issues launching the game or very unexpected behaviour, please take a look at the “Known Issues” section as this contains some very common workarounds for those issues.

See you again soon everyone <3

    OPTIMISATION

    • Resolved issues where signs ticked when not needed, This should improve GPU bandwidth and improve CPU performance in saves with a big quantity of Signs built
    • Cleaned up major log spam that affected loading

    BUG FIXES

    • Fixed being unable to place Water extractors in the recently fixed Water that was previously missing, they should now work as intended

    LOCALISATION

    • Updated all languages with the latest translations

    KNOWN ISSUES

    • A reminder for people who have been having issues with unexpected crashes on startup or weird behavior with the game, in that case please try to verify your game files.

    • You can do this on Steam by Right Clicking the game in your Library > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files...

    • And on Epic by clicking on the three dots (“...”) next to the title or at the right side, depending on your selected library view > Manage > Verify Files > Verify

    • This may or may not redownload a large amount of files which might take a while depending on your internet connection or hard drive speeds so be wary of that.

    • If you are using mods, they might need to be updated or uninstalled after updating so please keep this in mind too.

    • The first time booting the game will be very slow, but that should not continue to happen after the first boot

    • Game can hang on quit

    • There is major performance loss when running out of VRAM

    • Lights don’t behave correctly in Lumen compared to Signs

    • Factory Animation tick reductions can be slightly too aggressive

    • TSR can cause visual issues with conveyor belts, you can try using the following console command to alleviate the issues, but this will reduce AntiAliasing quality

      • r.TSR.ShadingRejection.Flickering 0
    • Max FPS option is visually stuck at 0 regardless of selection, the FPS cap does still work however, so this is merely cosmetic

    • The Global Illumination option might show blank and prevent you from changing it if you were using Cinematic before it was removed in yesterday’s update, you can work around this by using the “Reset to Default” button, it should let you change the setting normally afterwards, Do note that this will reset all other Video settings to default
