  • How have I not heard of this series? Looks twilight zone-ish? Is it worth a watch?

  • I'd definitely recommend them, though sometimes you'll need to power through some dry bits. All the 90's trek started out rough and only got better.

It's not hard sci-fi, so the technology sometimes works the way the story needs it to work, but generally it's pretty consistent.

  • That's a really cool theory, probably the best I've heard! It's established that there is a limited range, and that transporting during warp is possible, but extremely difficult, have to match the other ships exact speed etc., though they technically aren't traveling faster than light but existing within a warp bubble.

  • You can also use emojis in computer and user names in active directory. Trust me, the network guys love it!

  • Did some digging and the full name is "Colossal Cave Adventure", though was commonly just called "Adventure"
Was the first well-known game of that type.

  • Yikes!

  • I was looking at this link which mentions no smiling and hair away from the face and forehead, but yeah yours is probably more accurate.

My daughter has a similar hair style and for her Norwegian passport she had to tie the bangs with a hair clip before they accepted it. Somehow I would have thought Japan would be just as strict.

  • It's cool how most here seem to be older, I was almost expecting people to name drop Skyrim and make me feel like a dinosaur lol.

I used to love the text-based adventures, like "Adventure" and I believe one was called "Humbug". Even learned C programming at a young age in an attempt to make my own.

Enjoyed the Hugo trilogy too. Wasn't a big fan of side-scroller games but I fondly remember Secret Agent, Duke Nukem I+II and Commander Keen.

My real love was RPGs, specifically Ultima VII.

  • Yikes!

  • Cool, I've never seen this one with the actual passport photo. That hair and smile though... Based on a quick google that's not approved for a Japanese passport photo.

  • I got a report earlier that my community wasn't showing up on https://browse.feddit.de earlier as well, but it's back now. I'm not sure how it works but I assume it's related.

  • What is actually the point of that drop down? I mean, obviously to select the language you're using, but why?

  • This is so common that I've actually started second-guessing myself when I write '90s

  • CEO of Reddit

  • After the blackout, who knows, but once they paywall the third party apps I'm betting Spez and his "snoos" are going to feel it a lot more than a silly little 2-day blackout. For many, myself included, the official reddit app is not an option whatsoever.

  • That's not working either it seems.

  • I tried looking up this community as well from a couple of different instances and it's not showing up.

  • So how to we solve this? Create a user on .ml and subscribe to the .world community? Or is it enough to just search it up once to it "sees" the other community?

I can't seem to get !mycommunity@lemmy.world to work from lemmy.ml either so 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Alright so this seems a good a place as any to ask dumb questions... This almost feels like the 90's and using the internet for the first time 🤣

So, I'm viewing this post on lemmy.world, but the content itself is from beehaw.org, simple enough. What happens if beehaw.org is unavailable, let's say permanently shut down, right now? Is the past content still available on other instances or does it just poof? Could I still view this post one day, week, month, year after a shut down? Could I still comment? The image itself I see is hosted directly on the beehaw instance so that obviously depends on a stable instance.
